Q: How big is this step" Wide and Long after it is in the receiver and exposed for anyone to step on?

The step surface is 16" (front to back) x 18" (wide). After the post slides into the hitch it measures 17" from the bumper. I hope this helps!

Q: do you have to take this step on and off every time you need to use it?
