Very Good for Mixing Whey Protein Powder into Milk
The media could not be loaded. ** Update March 20, 2024 **After nearly 3 years, my unit is starting to falter a bit: Sometimes I need to rotate the shaft a bit to get it going. Not a huge deal but I'd prefer it to just work seamlessly all the time as it has for these past few years. The paddle switch that I had been a little concerned about in my previous review proved to be robust enough to last all this time so no complaints on that front either. So, I'm buying this exact unit again with no regrets. I looked at some of the other options out there and I still feel this is a great value.** End Update **I've been using the Prince Lionheart Formula Mixer for the past 10 years. And was pretty amazed that it lasted that long. What I hadn't noticed is that it had been getting gradually less and less powerful after maybe 6 or 7 years.Anyway they replaced their nice, chunky plastic mixing wands with little metal ones. Those are fine if you want frothy drinks but I think anybody wanting to mix protein powder into milk in a glass wants as LITTLE froth as possible. So I went searching and found this Norpro mixer. I was surprised how powerful it is which tells me that I really should have replaced my other unit sooner than this. This unit comes with 4 mixing wands, only the two plastic ones are any good IMHO (who wants to clean that whisk every time you use it?). The "straight" white plastic one will actually flare open when spinning but it gives pretty much the same result as the other plastic one that is built with the split legs and the latter is MUCH easier to fit a cloth in all the nooks and crannies to effectively clean it.Of course the little metal "frother" wand is a non-starter for my purposes. Probably great if you're an espresso aficionado. I'll never know.My only concerns are that the batteries are a bit challenging to replace so I'm concerned if this will have me damage the unit while taking it apart (make sure to memorize the battery orientation 'cause the unit wont tell you which way they go...) and that the on/off "paddle" switch seems a little flimsy, but I've been using it for a month now and have had zero issues with it.Note: Ironically, because of the angle I was holding myself at to film the Norpro in action I frothed the heck out of my drink. Sorry, only doing one take. I can only drink so much protein drink at a time! :)

Versatility, power, takes up small space!
I am very pleased with this product. I need to eat many liquid products that have to be stirred and this is the best product I have found yet. I showed it to my granddaughter who is going to college this fall and she said that would be a great addition to her dorm room!

Great idea, but poor construction.
I had something similar years ago and was excited to receive this. Packaging was good, everything was sealed in plastic and the box was in good condition. Upon inspecting the main unit I noticed how cheaply made it was, which is not surprising at this price point. First, the button to operate is just a piece of plastic that is an extension of the battery cover and looks like it could easily break off after some use. Speaking of batteries, there are no instructions on battery installation, luckily I’m pretty versed on how battery terminals look and got the orientation right on the first try, however they were difficult to install and even more difficult to remove. The accessories looked okay, but to connect the accessories you slide it over a metal shaft that is recessed into the main unit. The problem with this is that you can’t see how well the accessory is fitted over the shaft. The second issue is that, as far as I can see, there its nothing for the accessory to grip on the shaft to keep it spinning. For my first attempt using the device I selected the beating accessory to grind up cat food, which is a stew like consistency with soft pieces in gravy and would have ideally resulted in wet mousse-like texture. At first it worked great. Then the accessory started slipping in the shaft and was no longer spinning. The other accessories would probably still work, but this is specifically what I purchased this in for and so it is going back.

Comparing this Norpro mini mixer with the Fit & Fresh mini mixer
Protien powders and other such dry nutritional mixes have the best consistency and feel less grainy if you mix them with liquid in your blender. However, if you're out and about or at work you're often stuck with a shaker cup to mix with and the results just aren't the same. I decided to try out these mini-mixers on the recommendation of my friend and they do indeed blend powders and liquids better than the shaker cups do. I bought two, The fit & Fresh Fit & Fresh Portable Drink Mixer and the Norpro, as they're pretty inexpensive and I just couldn't decide between them. The Fit & Fresh has a little to-go carry case that seemed to make it pretty convenient, plus reviews stating that it seemed more powerful than some of the other little minis. Whereas the Norpro didn't have a to-go case, but came with extra attachments that made it look better.Having now used them both, I prefer the fit & fresh over the Norpro and here's why:The Fit & Fresh seems better made. It has an actual slider switch for off and on and the overall quality of the plastic housing seems thicker and better assembled than the Norpro. It comes with two blender sticks (not sure what else to call them) and a little vinyl case. It does seem to have a bit more power than the Norpro and seems to spin faster because of it. It does a better job of mixing my protein powder into milk (I mix pretty thick, with only 1 cup of milk to 1/2 cup of powder, so this is based on my thicker mix). The Norpro seems cheaply made. Rather than an actual on/off button, they put an extra plastic extension on the end of the battery case (where you open to put in the batteries) and when you push it down flat to meet the rest of the plastic housing it turns on the blender. The plastic seems thinner and overall it feels cheaper. It does come with extra attachments, but to be honest, I'm not sure what you'd use them for that the regular, white spreading one couldn't do the job on. (The white plastic blender sticks spread out when blending to better swirl the mix) It also doesn't come with an easy, ready made case. So you either have to put it back in the box (what I've been doing so far) or stick it in a baggie or something. At the time of my purchase the Fit and Fresh was $2.50 more than the Norpro $6.51. To me, the overall low cost of under $10 makes me inclined to recommend and buy the Fit & Fresh even though it is a bit more. Mainly because it seems to be better made and a bit more powerful (and the handy case adds extra points, too). In the long run, either may be just fine for you as the difference wasn't dramatic, although I do worry the Norpro will die sooner because of it's lower manufacture quality.
