Good curriculum
Saxon is a good math curriculum for students! The book will take you step by step on how to instruct the child.

Home or public school
Saxon math is a step by step approach to teaching math. Reinforces early math concepts, such as telling time, money, calendar. It also focuses on learning the math facts and story problems. It is written for the general ed program, but perfect for sp.ed. teacers use because of it’s step by step teaching.

good for a strong math base
My first 3 kids went to a charter school and they used this program (starting with Math 1 in kindergarten). They had no problem following along. Then we moved and they were so far above their peers (slightly frustrating but not much we could do-just glad they had a good base). But I can’t stand the program our district uses now for our younger kids starting out. The papers have so many pictures and colors all over them-it’s confusing! So when my next kiddo started kindergarten I purchased just these Math 1 workbooks (no teacher manual) and we do them after school in place of his other “homework“. They take 10-15 minutes to do front and back plus a math fact sheet. I love the simplicity and repetition of them, plus he gets in some reading with them. I’m planning on getting Math 2 to start as soon as we finish these. If we continue I’m sure I’ll need the teacher manual, but for now these are simple enough to teach him the basics. Plus I remember enough from my older kids to understand some teaching concepts (double+1=?, for example).

Great! But make sure you order both parts!
We love this curriculum and getting to just reorder the worksheets when our next child is old enough for them. But notice that they will need Part One and Part Two for the curriculum so you need to find both.

Excellent program, but fully scripted. Each lesson has the potential be 1.5 hours long.
I absolutely love Saxon math for the younger grades. It’s very hands on for lower elementary kids and there are many helpful manipulatives that can be purchased separately. The program is fully scripted and can take up to an hour and a half.

Good Math Review
I have a child in kindergarten who has recently become interested in all things math, so I decided to get Math 1 for her to do at home. We like the curriculum, but it is so repetitive that she gets frustrated with "doing the same thing over and over". Of course, I think the program is great because it makes sure the child understands before moving on to something new, and then incorporates problems constantly from previous lessons. I do have to skip some of the lessons, just to keep her interested. Would be nice if it moved just a tad quicker. Great for a child having trouble grasping concepts.

NO-Bul here - if you are an elementary teacher - ...
NO-Bul here - if you are an elementary teacher - who has lost all faith in our top down system of telling teachers what to do to improve the lives of everyone besides your students - Saxon has your back - it's math for kids the way they need it and use it in life. It's proven time and time again - across so many ablility levels - to do exactly what all the staff meetings with curriculum specialists and new fancy programs can never do - teach the basics with reason and practicality.
