BlueStars Ultra Durable WR9X499 Refrigerator Temperature Control Thermostat DIRECT Replacement for OEM Part – Exact Fit For GE & Hotpoint Refrigerators - Replaces AP2061705, WR09X0499

The temperature control on my 25 year old GE fridge was not working correctly. It would cool to the proper temps, then turn off, and occasionally not come back on. By turning the Temp Control knob on/off and jiggling it, the fridge would come back on. This got worse and worse.The part number for my temp control is WR09X0599 (also WR9X599). This part is not available anywhere. I contacted 5 repair shops and none of them would work on my fridge since the part was no longer available, and they all recommended replacing the fridge.I saw a review from Penny J that seemed to have the same problem, so I ordered this part.Short version ... it worked!! My fridge is now working properly again for $15. I did not have to buy a new fridge (and have my almost fine fridge toss into a landfill).Details on this part:- the packaging was non existent! It had been in a flimsy box inside an envelope, and had come out of the box, so it was basically shipped in an envelope. How it survived that I do not know.- I did have to bend the mounting tabs slightly to line up with the holes where the previous controller was, about 2mm adjustments on both sides- I did have to get 2 screws to fit- the temp probe part is about 4" shorter than my original X599 controller , but it was still enough to go into the freezer area and the temps in the fridge/freezer are perfect- once installed, getting the temp right in the freezer did require some adjustments to the set screw. The large temp control knob makes fine adjustments to the temp. But the small set (preload) screw makes larger adjustments. At first, the freezer temp went to 20 degrees and stopped. The set screw is located right next to where you push the larger temp control knob on. In the end, turning it 1.5 turns counter clockwise got my freezer to zero.- It is working great, zero in freezer, 37 in fridge, all fixed for $15!!

Our Kenmore Elite freezerless fridge had stopped cooling properly, the compressor was hardly ever coming on. Went inside and bypassed the thermostat and voila, the fridge started cooling again. A replacement thermostat with the exact part number was going to be over $300 cdn plus shipping, so decided to try this one at a fraction of the cost. Had to drill two holes in the metal back plate to mount it, but it works a treat. If your fridge is running too cold with this thermostat (like ours did), you can adjust it by turning the small recessed screw located near the main rotary control. A full turn clockwise of the small recessed screw increases the temperature switching points by about 5 degC.

Have a TFX22PPDAAA fridge probably 15+ years old that started to become warm 2 days before going to vacation. I initially replaced the defrost timer due to some confusion I had trying to understand how it works (some of defrost timers have a resistor in series with the defrost motor and some of them have a capacitor in series with it - so depending on resistor/capacitor they should be tested slightly different). After I replaced it I figured out that Temp Control Thermostat is in series with defrost timer so if thermostat is defective (i.e. remains opened for some reasons) nothing will work. This thermostat is basically a small closed pipe (i.e. the stuff that looks like a wire) filled with some gas that ends up with a membrane inside the big metallic block. When temperature increases the pressure also increases forcing the membrane to push a needle through a spring to push a switch to close the circuit - once the circuit is closed it activates the defrost timer that either enables the compressor to work or (for a very short period) defrost heater to melt the ice that is forming behind the wall in the freezer. So after reading through reviews for WR9X499 (basically I was searching for WR9X599 but GE in his infinite wisdom decided not to produce it anymore) I decided to give it a try - All I had to do is to find 2 different screws, play a little bit with the wings to align the holes to screw them and rotate counter clock wise 1.5 times (when you look closely near the knob you'll see a 1.5 mm in diameter hole with a small screw - this is the one that I think allows you go calibrate it to 0 degrees F) and to push the pipe sensor through the plastic tube to reach the freezer compartment, connect the two wires to it and that was it. The freezer temperature reaches anywhere between -1F to 0F when the temp control thermostat opens and it is working for 2 days now.I could say that "Worked as replacement for WR9X599 Temperature Control" review of "Power Reader" is accurate and I avoided the hassle of buying a new fridge.PS: After I dissembled the old/faulty Thermostat my conclusion was that the switch was still working properly but for some reasons the membrane did not have enough force to push to close the circuit (i.e. remained opened all the time) - I suspect a micro fissure into it forced the enclosed gas to be very slowly released therefore the malfunction.

Replaced a 29-year old thermostat by GE Canada. Had to reshape mounting tabs. Frig temp was too high even at max. cold setting. Found calibration screw (from online research) in opening beside main knob shaft and turned CCW in 1/2 turns until satisfactory temp control range was achieved. Seems OK now.

Worked just fine
