VDO C1DS Wireless Bicycle Computer

PROS: The price is right. The display is legible.CONS: No Maximum speed. I was disappointed when I realized this. It seems like every computer in this price range has it - except this one! Not a big deal - just a disappointment. The documentation is poor. Seems like someone translated the German to English. The ride reset requires 4-6 button pushes depending which screen you are viewing when you reset! And it will take you a half hour to find this in the documentation. The auto start/stop works on a ride, but you need to rouse it from sleep mode at the start of a ride. You can store data for two different bikes and swap the computer between them, but finding just the mount to buy for the second bike will be a challenge.SUMMARY: I'm satisfied for the money I paid. And once you get used to it, it does what it's supposed to do.

The VDO C1dS bicycle computer is head and shoulders above my last 2 computers. one fell off in the woods and was never heard from again,while the other would erratically report i was going 75 mph and had traveled 150 miles,during an easy 12 mph 3 mile bike ride.The old computer was possesed. it had to go.Then i saw the very economical VDO on Amazon. Great features,good looking unit,great price.a few laps in my basement at home tells me it's working correctly after installation(do yourself a favor and look around on Amazon for a big ol' magnifying glass.you will need it to read the instruction manual.Damn them and their tiny type!).Been out for a couple short rides...so far it works well,and i will check it out some more...Cheers!

Still trying to figure out some of the simple functions. I wish it was back-lit because all my riding is late at night and must look when passing under a street light.. The wireless function is great and actually works on my recumbent front wheel to the handlebar.

Update on VDO wireless w/ cadence purchased at end of April 2012. I've ridden 2100+ trouble free miles with it so far and still have the same batteries. I was a little concerned that the tie wrap connections would not be sturdy enough to hold things in position but they have done their job. For me, the cadence feature doesn't see much action. The computer allows you to view your trip distance or the cadence, but not both at the same time. The next time I buy a bike computer, I will look for one that allows you to monitor speed, trip distance and cadence all in the same view.

This item was great while it worked, but it didn't last a month. Installation went fine and I loved the product. However, after just a few short rides it quit communicating between the sensor and the computer unit. After many attempts to readjust, I gave up and ordered a more expensive CATEYE unit which is working fine.

Setup was not a breeze and the owners manual was not helpful. In use, transmission is spotty. It reads 0 mph frequently. At 24 mph it gives an odd error readout. Given the confusing manual, my iffy results could be the result of operator error.

I have put on many miles so far. Installation on the bike was quick and painless. Computer is easy to use and easy to read while cycling. An excellent item so far. No cold rides as of yet so do not know how it will perform then. Great item.

I'd give this 2.5 stars if I could. It works OK when it works, but I have had it die, only a couple months after replacing the battery (because it died before). After it dies, the whole thing has to be reset, and that's a nuisance. Have owned it for just over a year and a half. It's my first bike computer. Looking for a more reliable one.
