The Powder You Didn't Know You Needed
I never thought I'd be writing a glowing review for a product I bought on a whim, but I am thrilled with this product. There is absolutely nothing like this that I've ever experienced.First the packaging: The powder comes in a very sturdy plastic jar and it reseals tightly. It arrived in perfect condition.Second, the product: This heavy cream powder is a little dense and sticky but easy to measure out. In humid climates you should definitely store it in the container until you are ready to use it (don't leave it out as it will clump.) The powder blends in hot liquids almost immediately and in cooler liquids, it blends with a little additional stirring or blending.Where I found this heavy cream powder to be the absolute best was in my coffee and in baking. I have been drinking coffee with fresh heavy cream or half and half for years because I don't like the additional carbs in milk and I love the creamier taste. This powder is the perfect solution to those of us who love heavy cream but want a longer shelf life. Coffee creamers often taste artificial, but not this powder! It is all the creamy taste with none of the strange after-tastes.In baking, this powder is an absolute godsend. Add to mashed potatoes, cream based gravies and I used it in my chicken corn chowder and it absolutely added a layer of smooth taste that my family raved about. We used it as a sprinkle on a tart we made and it was fabulous all by itself.Using the directions on the container we were able to make a whipped cream that was fluffy and delicious. Make the heavy cream first (measurements on the package) and let sit in the refrigerator overnight. Then beat in sugar to make a whipped cream topping. Add sugar slowly to the mixture. We found that less sugar was actually better. Be sure you keep everything very cold, as it really helps maintain the texture.Lastly: I can't rave enough about this product. It's a great cost, tastes amazing, and is one of the most versatile food products around. I am so very glad I found it and hope to stock up on a few containers so we don't run out anytime soon.Take it camping, on a boat ... or really anyplace you want a cream taste without refrigeration.

Tasted like Cream. Good products.
Good product. Tastes like cream. Works well in cooked dishes. A bit hard to get it to dissolve in water no mater what temperature. Good product to have on hand.

Good substitute for those looking for a shelf stable version of heavy cream for their coffee
I purchased this product first and foremost for my coffee as a shelf stable alternative to refrigerated heavy cream and also for cooking and baking. As a former school trained chef I am particular in my tastes but in all honesty I was not expecting this to taste like fresh heavy cream. After reading the review about lumps, I took the advice of others and mixed about a teaspoon of hot coffee in the cup before adding the rest. It took a while to dissolve all the lumps with stirring...a slight annoyance but not enough to discontinue using the product. Even with all the stirring, a few small lumps were floating on the top when I added the rest of the coffee. A teaspoon of the powder gave me the right color for my coffee. The mouth feel was spot on for heavy cream and I spent the rest of the time finishing my cup trying to decide if I could tell the difference from the two. As others had commented, I did notice a grittiness at the very end of the cup, the last tablespoon or so. I decided to make my next cup with fresh heavy cream to see the difference. I added about a tablespoon of fresh heavy cream to my cup. Same color, same appearance. Mouth feel was the same but there was a definite difference in the taste, not sweeter but the dairy flavor I picked up with the fresh cream was most likely due to the milk sugars. That being said all in all I think this is a good product for those looking for a shelf stable alternative to heavy cream for their coffee. The flavor was close enough that I needed to make a cup with fresh cream to taste the difference. One star removed for the grittiness at the end and the lumps that take a lot of stirring to remove. I will purchase this product again.

Excellent, unique product.
My wife recommended that I get off my non-dairy coffee creamer habit. She says there's a lot of bad things in that stuff and she's right. She suggested this as an alternative and it works really well in coffee. Although it's a little bit hard to dissolve. Once it does, it's fine...but it will settle back, you have to keep stirring it.

Good cream, good company
I love this stuff! The flavor is good, maybe a little sweeter than fresh cream. I put it in coffee, and also use it for cooking. (I never have milk in the house. If a recipe calls for milk, I use half cream and half water.)I bought it for camping and for emergency prep; but I use it at home sometimes, just to finish off the jar before it expires. It keeps for a year or more even after the container is opened. When it turns yellow, I figure it's time to throw it away and get more.Mixing it is kind of funny: the powder is so light, it floats on top of the water for quite a while. If you want to make one pint of cream, use a 2-pint container with a tight-fitting lid. Then you can get the cream and the water in there, close the lid, and shake it. It will take an hour or so to fully rehydrate. Giving it another shake every 10-15 minutes will help.I've also ordered cheddar cheese powder, and several kinds of dried vegetables, from this company. I've been happy with all of them. Amazon had some trouble with my last order, but the nice folks at Hoosier Hill got it straightened out. Bon appetit!
