What do i need besides grout to do my counter top and small area up the wall? will need sponge? cement? trowel? ceramic tiles.

All the above plus adhesive for tiles, a tool for removing excess grout and a grout sealer

Does the marble absorb the color from the grout if not sealed before grout applied?

I used it on tile - it didn't seem to have any effect. It's still going strong. I used it for a repair -- and it's the only thing that's worked on some badly set tiles.
