It works USE IT
This is inexpensive and easy to get used to, the micro-dust and other crap that filters is the worse for you, the stuff you don't feel because the hairs on your nose don't catch is what will get you sooner rather than later. Even if you aren't dealing serious hazardous materials, use a mask. Cutting wood for a little project produces micro dust that will get you, if you are a weekend warrior will get you faster because you think is no big deal. Using glues in the garage just for a moment? and another moment next month? and then some smelly paint, and then some bug killer for the yard? Put that mask on.
