Works well and cleans easily
The espresso shots using this basket seems to have a smoother flow. I am not sure if this is due to the coating, but it is obviously better. The cleanup is also greatly improved.

The difference is clear.
The quality is obvious when comparing pucks. The upper puck in the picture was produced using the stock basket that came with my machine. The lower puck was produced using the IMS basket. The difference is clear.

Big step up from my stock basket
I will shamefacedly admit that my espresso machine is a Kitchenaid KES6503 -- the least-mentioned espresso machine in the espresso world. But I wanted to make better brew with it, so I got this precision basket and a bottomless portafilter to hold it (it wouldn't fit in the stock portafilter. I think the bottom needed to be tapered to go in the stock one.) If you go that route, be warned that not all 58mm portafilters are interchangeable. The one on the Kitchenaid has three locking lugs on it, and most portafilters only have two. So, having replaced the basket and the portafilter, I was finally in business... or at least I could diagnose my mistakes. The stock filter basket tapered down to the point where only about half the surface had holes in it. The new basket, being non-tapered, had holes across the whole bottom surface. This mad it much easier to get the timing of shots right, since I no longer had a big, soggy puck funneling water down to the few escape holes. The puck ejected from the new basket with very little resistance and looked much drier. Add the bottomless portafilter and I could see that my unpredictable shot taste was related to channeling. Spiffing up my puck prep got that in line pretty fast. So now, I'm still not impressing the espresso world with my machine, I can wipe the smug off their faces with by pulling a good shot.

Note this is an italian 18g, if you're using it for "third wave" coffee it's really a 20g basket
As most others using this product the first time I hit an initial learning curve but I figured it out for my purposes. While the product says 18 gram basket I realized that's more 18g of a dark roasted coffee bean, the now more popular lighter/medium roasts with various origins I've found to be closer to 20g, sometimes 21g for the basket to be properly filled, I'd get a channeling issue as there was too much room in the basket for expansion with 18g.The rest of the product works as expected, fits fine with my 58.5 mm tamper, 58.5 mm puck screen, I use a profitec bottomless portafilter that it fits perfectly into. Yes it's ridgeless which was my initial purpose for buying it as I was tired of my coffee finding its way in the ridges, but because of that you do need a knock box with a bar.overall I find the product to work as desired.Notes: I use a profitec 500 with a niche zero grinder

Game changer for Flair 58
Replaced original with this model and the pulls are now much more nuanced. All the variables that effected a pour are more pronounced. A significant improvement on opportunity and quality of product. The heat treatment on the filter created a beautiful rainbow gradient on the filter.

"Espresso Rain" is overrated.
Hey guys - usually don't bother writing reviews, but thought I would share this experience.I consider myself pretty well set on the overall espresso process. I use a very reliable Gaggia Classic Pro, manually set to about 9.5 bars of pressure. Using the run-of-the-mill, ridged Gaggia bottomless basket with the stock naked portafilter, and have had no issues with either one. I use high-quality, medium roast fresh beans which have been rested anywhere from 10 to 15 days.My sweet spot has kind of settled on 18g IN (bottomless basket is a 'double') and 60ml OUT in 26 - 28 seconds. Slight variability in grind dial between different roaster products, and as beans further age. Pretty satisfied with the current process. Good, thick, lasting crema throughout the shot, and not bitter but smooth. So - in an effort to continue to raise the game, I tried this basket and bought into the 'espresso rain' hype. Sorry to say that 1 star is as high as I go. It was extremely hard to dial this in....I use the J-Max hand grinder from 1ZPresso, a very solid non-electric grinder. Once I was at 12 clicks finer than I am accustomed to, this basket was still spitting out a shot of 60ml in 21 seconds. One more click finer, and I was at 60ml in 32 seconds. Nothing in between. The shots start out very slow, overly dark, and then once the machine builds to constant pressure, the basket just "lets loose" the espresso. VERY messy, splashy, and sloppy, regardless of grind setting. This is not only not a smoothly delivered, single-stream extraction, it is also not even close to "espresso rain". This is an espresso thunderstorm. Weak, thin, overly blonde crema, and very bitter taste, and coffee everywhere you don't want it to be.Sadly, I find LESS THAN ZERO added value to my process with this basket, and will be returning it today. The pursuit is still on, but we won't be getting rained on any further here at the house. :)WK

Good addition
Use on a Gaggia Classic Pro. Fits perfectly. The slick coating for the grounds not sticking seems to have worn off.

Works Womderfully
I've used this basket since my first professional espresso machine was new, and I have never had any issues. It works great. Now I am building a second professional espresso machine, so now, I'm buying it again, for the second time around.
