Always liked Makita
Love it. A little more pricey than some competitors, but works great, and can slow the speed down, which is very helpful with flexible rust removal discs.

Won't be disapointed...
Great little grinder....I first bought a different name brand...(it was yellow)...had similar specs and was a well known name...tried it out for about an hour and the thing got so hot ya couldn't even touch the housing...I looked at this Makita and having already had an older one that I bought over 20 years ago and is still doing the job for me..(not all the wheels etc. fit my old one) I went with this model and it is great....I've had it for over a month now and have put it through some tough work...really like the variable speed settings and slow start up...I did a 6'X18' trailer I'm redoing to remove rust for paint, welding, etc. and it's like a dream...flap wheels, grinding wheels, cut off...doesn't matter it keeps on keeping on...I do blow it out with my compressor blow gun when it gets heavily dirty as I take good care of any of my tools...plenty of power and comfortable to use...I would recommend this grinder to anyone that wants a very nice tool at a decent price....

Great product
A bit heavier than other grinders also a bit hard to turn on, over all a great product very powerful and easy to adjust speed.

Best I've Ever Used
Excellent Grinder. This is the best angle grinder I have ever used. I use it as a helper in a fabrication shop. I may spend up to 12 hours a day grinding. I've had it for well over 2 months now. It is smoother than any Metabo I've used and more ergonomic. I've had less hand pains than when I used comparable Dewalt or Metabo grinders.I bought it because it is the most powerful 4.5" angle grinder I could find. It says 12 amps on the specifications, but the actual grinder says 12 amps. I have been extremely please with it's power. The SJS is great if you sometimes become overly aggressive when grinding. I feel confident it will outlast the German made grinders because of this. I've never used the variable speed as the type of work I do requires only the maximum speed on this grinder. The reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because there are some drawbacks.-The guard adjustment is not as durable as a Metabo or even Dewalt-I would prefer a vibration reducing handle when I get a grinding disc that is not well balanced-I wish the guard was available in stainless steelDespite these drawbacks, I still think it is the best 4.5" angle grinder on the market.

Versatile tool has many uses
I've not purchased every type of grinder to compare to this Makita, but I purchased this tool for three reasons: good location for the on/off switch, variable speed, soft start. Its the first 4.5" grinder I've owned and I didn't realize how versatile it is. I've already used it for cutting, sanding, grinding, cleaning rust with a wire brush assembly. The tool isn't very heavy, but when grinding, you need to use two hands to keep it steady. It includes a hand grip that can be placed on either side of the grinder (or removed) which is a big help doing body work in tight places when you can't control which way you hold the tool. The variable speed is especially handy for auto body work when you just want to clear away rust with a brush attachment, you put it on low speed and you won't damage the metal. For this reason alone I highly recommend the variable speed. With a brush attachment, I've now done in 6 weeks about 10 years of painting jobs because there wasn't a fast easy way to remove the rust. Well, now I have it.The grinder is very powerful for its size; I was using this at a remote site with a 2000 watt generator, and you can hear the generator labor when you really bear down cutting or grinding (although a 2000 watt generator will produce 16 amps, more than enough for the tool)Its been a while since I bought a tool that I've used this much and enjoyed. I put off cleaning an extremely rusted metal mailbox post for about 10 years. I tried hand brushing, sanders, and couldn't really get rid of all the rust. This tool took it off in under 10 minutes and I had it sealed with some POR-15 all in under 30 minutes. If you're doing more than just cutting, get the variable speed: it makes this tool twice as useful. One oddity: when I received this tool, it was dusty, almost like somebody from the factory with dirty gloves had picked it up and not bothered cleaning it. But the tool looked unused, I wiped it down and it clearly had never been used, and I have no issue, so I don't know if mine is an odd case, or whether the QC guy isn't careful.

Love the dial speed control
I chose this grinder for the speed control. I'm surprised it's not much more popular than it is. In a grinder, the dial speed control is much more appropriate than a variable speed trigger. My hands are not big, so like all the rest, this grinder is frequently a 2-handed operation. I'm a Mikita man.

Good experience, but the tracking updates could be better.
This industrial angle grinder from Makita delivers superior power in a compact design. With an improved 12 amp motor and five stage variable speed control, you can get the power you need for a wide variety of jobs. The Super Joint System prevents tool kickback and gear damages caused by accidental wheel binding. The larger and improved carbon brush material offers a longer tool life while the electronic limiter stops the motor and prevents accidental motor overload and burnout. Tool-less wheel guard adjustment makes for easy clamping while working. The innovative labyrinth construction seals and protects the motor and bearings from dust and debris,. Protective zigzag varnish seals armature and field from contaminants and reduces heat.
