Pro ASP.NET Core 6: Develop Cloud-Ready Web Applications Using MVC, Blazor, and Razor Pages

Author is reader-focused and detail oriented
I've been working with this book for a few hours and I love it because it offers an organized, focused view into a clear topic with enough of the details right that I have been able to follow along. So far, there is nothing I don't like about this book. One nice feature is that the author provides detailed instructions for using EITHER Visual Studio or VSCode.I believe it is not suitable, however, for newcomers to IT because it is impossible for the author to anticipate every detail that could go astray; some troubleshooting has been required.

Visual Studio actually works well
Good book, recommended. Well organized and you will learn quite a bit.Curious problem solving, over reliance on command line tasks when VS would give you the solution with a few clicks. On page 74, "I prefer to add Console.Writeline statements", and "This may seem line madness if you are a dedicated user of the debugger"Yup.

Far too verbose
This book tries to teach all things taking a user from knowing nothing to an advanced user. I'm 140 pages into this 1286 page beast (very small font), and only 25 pages have really been about writing ASP.NET code. Every example is given for both Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code. Commands are given in PowerShell. My company bought me this powerful point and click tool (Visual Studio), yet because of Microsoft's balkanization the author has me perform all commands in PowerShell. Point and click I can remember, PowerShell will require me to refer to the book forever.Chapter 1 - 10 pages on why ASP.NET is so balkanized; a good chapter.Chapter 2 - 22 pages. How to install and run both Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code.Chapter 3 - 25 pages. An actual ASP.NET application.Chapter 4 - 15 pages on tools that should be 5 pages in a focused book.Chapter 5 - 45 pages on C#. This should be a prerequisite for the book.Chapter 6 - 19 pages on unit testing. This includes a page that repeats a code listing with a single line of code changed from a previous listing. Only 2 lines of prose on this page. This book tries to be all things to all people. I would prefer a more focused book.

Very well written technical book
Coming from the Java world into ASP.NET in 2022, saw this as I needed some additional references, but not a beginner book that introduces basic programming concepts. Although I'm nowhere near completing the whole thing, it has been an excellent book. Not too verbose, and good examples. You can tell the author is a tech veteran. Only thing I'd like to see is the index expanded to find additional items.

If you're developing in ASP.NET Core 6, you need this on your bookshelf!
Adam Freeman's "Pro ASP.NET Core 6" (9th edition) is an excellent, up-to-date survey of the current state of .NET 6 web development. It's full of great examples and helpful tips. An invaluable resource for any C# developer's bookshelf!

good info, poor formatting
Pros: This book contains a deep dive into everything you need to know about ASP.NET.Cons: The code examples are difficult to read in the Kindle version for two reasons:1) The code is very poorly formatted. The lines wrap, there's no syntax highlighting, and there's no contrast with the surrounding text.2) Code example are repeated in their entirety, even when a single change has been added, and the differences are not highlighted or bolded at all. This makes it tedious to find the small change the author is referring to.If they could fix these code formatting issues, this would be a 5 star book.

A bit of a monster, but a friendly monster!
Not for beginners, and definitely not a reference book. It IS, however, absolutely perfect for the target audience: people who, like myself, have experience with C#/.NET but need to transfer their skills over to web apps. This book is extremely thorough and detailed just as needed, and doesn't leave you with the feeling that you're missing anything. 10/10 will definitely reccomend.
