Q: Smoker runs great for a few hours but then temp goes way down and no matter how much I kick up temp, doesn't go up. Power is on, smoker is running.

Your thermostat is bad. I owned 2 of these & the thermostat was bad on both. I returned them. This company does not know how to manufacture a BBQ smoker. They do not service what they sell. Bail out on this one, if you can.

Q: how does this grill compare to the traeger

I’ve used both and I find them to be equal. The one thing I like better in the Traeger is the wheels. They are rubber on the Traeger. The Pit Boss wheels are steel.

Q: Is it easy to replace parts if needed, and does it break down often? Is the amount of smoke controllable besides the temp control

We just got ours two weeks ago, have used it four times after thoroughly reading the instruction manual and the thing has broken down twice already, first the fuse went out and now it won't ignite. I am thinking I either got a lemon or this thing is just worthless at the moment. The warranty instructs you to fix the unit yourself without calling for help. I am going to have to call after this experience.
