Tight at firs and had to put the machete in and out many time to make it little loose

January 25, 2016.As others have said, the grommet for the belt clip protrudes so far into the sheath that the Ontario military machete, with black finish, will not go into the sheath without scraping the black finish off.Good sheath if you do not mind scratching the side of your machete every draw and re-insertion. I personally do not like equipment in poor condition or rusty gear due to mismatched components.

If you want a quick draw sheath this is not for you. The sheath does everything it is supposed to do. The Machete while hiking or camping can be strapped to your backpack in many different positions without the worry of it falling out. The Sheath will not retain water so your machete will have less chance of rusting. You may have to adapt the belt loop, and the sharpener does not really work, I would not try to use it except maybe in an emergency. I also have the black sheet and although it is easier to extract the Machete you have to be very careful on how you attach it to your pack. There is a good chance the Machete may come out of black sheath when attached to a backpack or other device. You have a choice, the green sheath is the best for attaching the machete to various devices, the black sheath is best to wear on your belt. Either way they are both reasonably price and do different things. If i was going to purchase only one I would buy the green sheath, because you have more carry options. A very nice item for the price, that does everything it is supposed to. I would recommend this item.

As someone who has used authentic Ontario machetes in the military, I know what the real thing is. This is not. The hardware is a cheaper grade metal than the real thing and the specs of it are off compared to the real thing. The color is also off. It came to me as a lime green color. The real ones are either a true olive drab green or black. The rivet on the inside of the sheath rubs on the blade, very disconcerting for those who actually plan to use their machete in wet enviotnments. The blade sharpener is also cheap. It won't hone the blade. But if you plan to drill out the hardware and use this sheath in another mounting option then this will do fine as it holds the machete.

This sheath fits the Ontario 18" 6145 Machete like a glove. After reading the other reviews and checking the fit just once, I too cut the rivet off that holds the web belt attachment with a hacksaw blade. I'm not going to be using that anyway. The rivet should be recessed but isn't. After removal, the blade still fits snugly. Even when the blade is oiled, it is retained in the sheath very securely. There isn't much else to say about this sheath but that it is plastic, won't retain water and should last a while. I am planning on creating a kit with this sheath by using some sections of bike inner tubes as attachment bands.
