The paper copy was dispatched quickly and received the following day. I am very happy and can read it better than the kindle version. On time for my assignment. I am over the moon. It is a good book to guide writing assignments and reading.

This is another good text in this generally excellent series. It is well judged as a student revision guide, but to those coming fresh to the topics the inevitably brief format there will often not be enough information to make the "whys" clear. For isnteance the chapter on renal replacement therapy in acute kidney injury outlines a range of strategies for fluid management which sketch out what to do and what to avoid, but do not give enough detail for a solid understanding of why you might (or might not) do any of these things. At the same time it casts its net rather wider than critical care medicine, so the chapter on diarrhoea talks about travellers diarrhoea, and on diabetes talks (briefly and slightly inaccurately) about aetiology (">40 year olds" - sadly we are now seeing teenagers with it)and routine management of type ii diabetes. On the whole this is a good thing for students who need only limited understanding of the high tech world of clinical care medicine, but do need a broad overview of the whole of medicine. as such this is going to be a useful revision guide, well beyond the boundaries of critical care. That said, if the author was more selective with the material the key issues of critical care (such as a good, but all too brief section on the difficult and frequently badly assessed hyponatraemia) could be covered in more detail - but then perhaps it would be too specialist for undergraduates. All in all though a useful addition to the range, and plenty of helpful and well illustrated material for undergraduates.
