This book purveys a great deal of useful information
I just received my copy in the mail today. I haven't had the moment to begin it yet, but the quality for getting the "used cheap" copy i bought still looks in great condition. However, i DID have an opportunity to skim through the beginning and this book seems like from the very beginning the book purveys information that helps, allows you to relates, and shares ideas on how and why to go about beginning your own record label. I'm very excited to begin this book, for my endeavor is to begin my own entertainment company (Final Reflect Entertainment). Im already begun, but this book is going to help me GREATLY with what needs to be done and how to do it. I definitely recommend this book to anyone of the interest of making your own entertainment business.

Essential Information for Aspiring Record Label Owners
Thanks to the author for such a helpful guide to the record business. I learned pretty much everything that I wanted to know about a record label and gained insights I wold not have thought to look up on my own.It takes you through all the steps needed to get up and running and remain above the water in the record industry. This is an older edition of the book so many things would have changed a little with regards to the internet references and technology in general but if you can make those inferences yourself go ahead and take a shot with this older version. The wheel isn't reinvented with every new car and neither should the basic steps to forming a well working record label. This book gets you rolling fast!

good book alot of info but...
The problem is there is too much advice from other record label owners. The problem isn't the advice because you can't get enough but not in the middle of every paragraph. There is a chapter devoted to advice and the end of the book also. So i didn't see why it was needed everywhere else in the book. When you get good into the book and you feel like your getting somewhere then there is joe schmo with his two of what he does and as i said there is never too much advice but if I cared what every indie label owner had to say about the business i would goggle that and that is not what i bought the book for

The story of my brother's life
I actually purchased this book for my brother who has an underground record label, going on about 5 years (?). He said it's absolutely amazing and that he can relate to most of the things that are covered. It has a lot of great suggestions and views on running a pre-existing record label and even starting one from scratch. He has learned a lot of legal issues too that he's taken care of and this is the only book I ever recall seeing him open! And he read it in 2 days!

I Love This Book! It's So Full Of Information!
This book really is wonderful. Full of facts, anecdotes, testimonials, and great chapters that break down what you'll be facing as you launch your record label. It's so in-depth, I think it's "required reading". It's THAT good.

Sorry to the tree that was cut down to make this book!
From the very start I knew this book would be garbage as soon as she shamelessly plugged her other books for sale one called "you dont need a record deal" the other called "how to get a record deal" (she contradicted herself right from the start)this book is the equivalent to someone doing a google search and reading their findings out loud, but never clicking more then the first link to come up, its is absolutely loaded with name dropping of artists shes worked with & its like reading printed spam because almost every page is plugging some link... honestly you would be better off to just google search the chapter titles and you would get much more information.theres no original concepts or ideas here & it really drags on with unimportant self-indulgent "know-it-all" nonsense..the opening phrase reads: "firstly id like to thank the god and the universe for all of my blessings"as a non god-fearing member of society from the word go I was offended by her shoving her religion in my face, I could not take her seriously even from the first sentence, im not saying she's not entitled to her own beliefs, but I should be entitled to read a book without hearing about them.one of her other "tips" involved promoting us to get into credit debt, basically saying you need to start a credit account to start a label which is untrue, she should not be imposing risks like this on people who are starting out...I am not a mean person I just thinks she owes an apology to all the tree's that were cut down to manufacture this garbage, I purchased this book online which means I have access to google so I expected to find something unique that I couldn't just gain from a search engine, I was hoping to get some inside industry knowledge but came up with nothing..If you buy this book prepare to feel robbed, the complete amateur who knows absolutely nothing at all about a record label might get knowledge out of this but i personally think if your at the stage of purchasing books on the topic, you'd already have some idea

Too many direct citations in the text makes difficult to read
I could blame the author for two major things:1) inserting the huge citations from other people in each and very paragraph in the whole book! It makes the whole text very difficult to follow, why not to write the digested and formatted text and add references somewhere? It's clear, professional and how it must be. Especially, as the author claims herself ex-profession as teacher. And it's her ....th book/edition.2)she points out the your site should be well-done, you has to be easy-found on the internet, etc. But! Herself she is not using her own advices: it's impossible to find her record label, her production company site looks egm..., her own author site looks clumsy as well. Maybe I'm too critical, but in my opinion when you arrive to the dentist and see his rotten teeth he wont inhale confidence in you...Still, nothing venture nothing gain and I respect the author's step in show biz as I'm a woman and record label owner too.

OK but aimed more at American start-ups.
A useful reference work with a good amount of interviews. Having said that, I don't find myself going to this book that often. It is (as these books tend to be) largely associated with the American industry which, for Brits like me isn't an awful lot of use right now.Nevertheless, it's worth a flick through for some ideas, advice etc.
