Review updated, improved from 2 stars
Edit: I have left the original review below.I'm keeping it after all. Ok, now that I've used this for a bit I have figured it out and the issue WAS mostly user error.Let the cheese warm to about room temp, this helps dramatically! The wire is no longer being stretched since it's easier to slice. Also I used pressure from my finger to help ensure more even slices, so there's a tip for you.Ultimately for the price this is probably about as good as it gets. If you want deli like sliced cheese maybe opt for a deli slicer.Original 2 star review:I mean it DID cut but after doing one block of store brand cheddar the wire was stretched. The very first cut was a warning of what was to come, every piece was uneven as the wire stretched more and more. Will use a few more times to ensure it isn't user error somehow but most likely will be returning as a knife seems to work just as well to cut uneven, too-thick slices.

Great product!
I had a wooden one before this and the wood cracked, so I decided to try a metal one. This one exceeds expectations for the money. I did break a wire pretty quick. To be honest, I was being impatient and was trying to cut too fast. But hey, they come with a few replacements!

works great
so much easier to cut cheese evenly. the wire broke after about 6 months or so but it comes with a bunch o replacements, so make sure you keep those - you'll probably need them. not super easy to put the replacement one on, but i got it attached.

Flawed design- more or less useless
I don't understand how this thing has gotten any positive reviews- maybe people are cutting brie with it. It comes with several replacement wire, which maybe I should've taken as an indication. The wires themselves are flimsy and stretch cutting normal sized slices of normal hardness cheese ie cheddar. This is exacerbated by the fact that the distance between the two attachment points is slightly too long- the flex it allows in the wire makes it likely that each wire only lasts a few cuts before bending out of shape enough that it just falls out. Doesn't matter how hard you crank the handle down to tighten it, the design makes it impossible for the wire to be taug enough to do its job. Avoid. As luck would have it, I was given a proper wire slicer for Christmas, made by a company called Clay. Night and day difference. I don't see em on here, but I'd at least take a look at that design and seek it out- theirs is not the only one with that design.

Need to cut the cheese?
This works great for slicing big blocks of cheese. Cleans up easily and you get extra wires for when your original one is worn out or bent, etc. I used this to cut Munster cheese which is a firm cheese, but not hard and it worked wonderfully.

Design for very light use
Decent Cutter, But Flimsy Wires & No Easy ReplacementsThe cheese cutter works well, but unfortunately, the wires are flimsy and break easily, especially during cutting. It comes with extra wires, but I only received 5 instead of the 10 advertised. Worse, there’s no easy way to buy replacements once you run out. It’s fine for light use, but not very durable in the long run.

What’s not to like? Beautiful and functional.
We were sold on the fact that it came either 10 replacement wires. An added plus is that it looks beautiful! Haven’t used it yet so I can’t comment on that yet.

Cheese slicer
I’ve wanted one of these for ages. Makes cutting cracker sized cheese so easy. I highly recommend it. You just need to hang on to the cheese as it slides.
