Made for Water Color Painting!
You CAN use this for sketching, but it is MEANT for water color. The paper weight - guessing 140lb. It does not warp. The book lays flat when fully opened for landscape. It will fit in the average shirt pocket. Well made. Has a book marker and a elastic band to keep the other pages out of the way. The pages are perforated and the other two corners are rounded. It has a handy pocket to store your finished work or you can just leave them in the book. You can paint on both sides of the textured paper without bleed through. Expect to pay more for real water color paper rather than a book that implies "Sure, you CAN use it for water color". This one is made for water color and a good value for your money. We use ours to capture the moment- its not finished art. We've found that taking the time for a quick sketch while on a trail resting on a rock or fallen tree is far better memory than snapping a photo. I will order again.

Nice travel size
I just rec'd my book and LOVE it. 25% cotton (at least it has some). The pages are heavy and lie flat. It has a slightly bumpy texture, though it is smoother in feel than most cold pressed watercolor paper. The paint I am using is vibrant and did not soak through to the other side. (I'm using Nicholson's Peerless watercolor). I am planning to use this book as an alphabetical story of my upcoming trip to San Francisco. I had to double up on the last pages for W/X, Y/Z. Otherwise each two page spread has a large color dot and a single letter. I chose the brown outer fabric which is a nice mahogany color and the elastic band is soft and seems sturdy. Cute little envelope in the back for ephemera. I don't know why people are complaining about the price. It is a solidly bound book with sew-in pages. Even the thin end pages are nice and did not soak through when I painted on them. I paid $11.00 for it and think it is worth that price.

Small and Great Quality
I paired this with a travel set of Kolinskys to make a great plein air student kit. The paper is not as absorbent as most all cotton papers, but it’s fine for a watercolor sketch diary. The thickness allows no-bleed painting on both sides of the sheets. Great quality construction. It is smaller than I anticipated but will be perfect for the students to carry on-the-go.

Very small
My fault for not checking on the size. It fit in my hand. Looks like good quality but I sent it back due to I needed a larger one.

This watercolor journal is well-made with good quality paper and the perfect size for traveling.
I bought this watercolor journal to use for small sketches or paintings. It's good for the times you just want to let out a little creativity and it keeps all of your sketches in one place. I mainly like using it to do stages of a drawing so I can see the changes made to the different drafts. It is the perfect size for traveling - if you're sitting in a hotel room or riding in the car and want to pass the time creatively. The page material is high quality and the paint doesn’t bleed through. I really like the attached strap that keeps everything tidy and protected. I don't have anything negative to say about this journal.

Travel and Paint!
Perfect for travel! I take this with me along with my Windsor newton travel water color set for whenever the occasion calls! I love being able to sit down and paint for an hour or so and have a collection! On warm days the paint dries quickly but still works well if the wet on wet technique is desired! Thick paper, easy to work with and cute size!
