I bought this to punch holes in plastic lids for standard and wide-mouth canning jars. It makes the correct size holes to fit silicone gaskets for inserting 3-piece air valves for fermentation projects, like kombucha tea and raw sour kraut. It is much less expensive to buy lids, gaskets and valves to assemble, then buying pre-made fermentation-lid kits. I did not want to buy an electric drill and special bit. This tool will bite through the sturdy, plastic canning-jar lids with 1 or a few hard hammer hit(s). I am a bit concerned the tool's sharp edge may become dull after not too many holes are made. I will update on how many uses it achieves, if it becomes dull. I'm usung it on sturdy, plastic lids, abouut 1/16" thick, like a large jar of peanut butter.

Perfect tool for punching holes soft material. Sharp edges for clean cuts, which look better than if it was chewed through. Good steel so the edges can be sharpened, keeping this item useful for a long time.

I got this so that I can punch perfect holes in lids for deli cups that I have turned into drinking cups. It works great as long as you hit it with a hammer and make sure it’s on something solid. Otherwise, it won’t work. I like it and it is the perfect size for my boba tea/milkshake straws to go through.

This is a well built tool, but it is trying to be two different sizes. 12mm does not equal 1/2 in. It is about a millimeter short. If 1 mm is not important to you then you'll be very happy with this item. If you need an exact 1/2 inch this will be useless to you. They are trying to play it both ways here. It's a 12 mm punch, period. I'll have to look for an actual 1/2 inch punch if there is even such a thing anymore.
