It is designed to be carried in pockets, or on your belt. The only question is if there is a size of the Pouch that fits your son's phone, and would also comfortably fit in his pocket (as that depends on the size of his pockets). Q: Can it fit an iphone 7 non plus in an otter box case?

Sorry, don't know. I bought this for a friend with a Samsung Galaxy and it fit fine. She didn't have an otter box case. I think you can contact the company SYB in Las Vegas. I talked to them a few times and they were pretty helpful. Sorry, didn't keep contact info.
