how do I get installation instructions for the sending unit?

Should have can with product. Honestly, it works horribly. Was never accurate.

I know amazon gives you a 30 day warranty,other than that I dont know the one I installed is working well.

The tank mouting surface is not horizontal. How far from vertical (degrees) can this unit be mounted and still have good float operation?

You can bend the float arm to adjust for any angle. Should work for you with a little effort.
