I mix with coconut fiber for snake substrate. A little goes a long way once reconstituted with water. I break off what I need and mix about 1/3 brick to 2 of the 8 qt bases of fiber.

This sphagnum moss is awful. It molds quickly. It's full of sticks. It is just terrible substrate! Save your money, save your time, do not order this. It is no good! I purchased it for plants. I have tried sterilizing it different ways after the first time I used it for trying to propagate, it quickly molded, it's not even good for compost!

WARNING FOR PLANT USE…I strongly advise against purchasing this moss for horticultural use. The additional organic matter in the moss made mold and fungus grow very quickly on slightly damp moss in a grow tent.Aside from that, this is quality moss for its intended purpose for reptiles.

This product was very great for the price! It has little to no scent, and it works great in my terrarium. It is very nice and fluffy, and it very easy to clean and replace. It was easy to set up, i only damped it with water.

I just added this moss to my Eastern Box Turtle’s enclosure. It holds moisture well and it’s providing cover for my little guy, but, oh my gosh, it smells HORRENDOUS! It smells like a porta-potty that’s been sprayed down with urine on a hot summer day. And the best part? It will make your room smell like that, too! *Barf!* It is honestly so bad. Giving this item a 1-star rating simply because it’s ability to hold moisture and provide cover are not worth the assault to your nose, I promise! I have used other brands of sphagnum moss before and none have ever had this smell before. Usually they just have an “earthy” smell, kind of like hay or grass. This stuff is awful. Will not purchase again.

Great for reptiles, theres alot more then you think if you haven't bought it like this. It expands alot.

The media could not be loaded. I got the smallest oz, and it worked well, it puffed up nicely after placing it in water for less than 3 minutes as shown in the picture. No aroma, no issues, no complaints. Very happy customer. My hermit crabs will love this in the morning when I clean out their habitat. I'm mixing this with coconut as shown in the image 🥥
