Why are they so shiny? What's on the surface？

FALSE, FALSE, FALSE. These utensils are NOT "treated with a water repellent process" to "make sure they don't splinter". These are made from teak hardwood, which is world-famous for its water-repellent properties. THESE TOOLS ARE SANDED SMOOTH, and that is all. Teak does not need any treatment to be waterproof, and teak WILL NOT ever become "saturated" and will not warp from it. As for making them "safe to use"... where on earth did you get that nonsense? Teak, by itself, already has all those good qualities. Please, people, stop making up such fake nonsense!

Will eggs stick to it when you scramble them?

I'm not sure as I don't make eggs at all any more. I definitely wouldn't try to make an omelet with them, as the edge is a little too thick for that. About the only thing that really sticks to them so far is cheese. I even wash them in the dishwasher and they have remained in great shape. I cook with them all of the time and adore them.

Are these utensils dishwasher safe?

I've only hand washed these, so that's what I would recommend. I don't think they would do well in the dishwasher.
