Tom Piens’ Mastering Palo Alto Networks is a phenomenal guide to Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS based NGFWs. Tom has put very hard efforts to make the book and contnet very very simple so that a begineer can easyly go through it and become a master of Palo alto device. The conbination of GUI and cli will clear all your confusion regarding any topic. Starting from the crash to build new device is explained extremely easy way. I gone through the whole book. As I had mid-level experience with palo. A chapter troubleshooting common session issue and deep dive into troubleshooting are explained. I am sure this chapter will enhance the troubleshooting skill of an engineer in a terrific way. A must recommended and a book that must be on your desk if you are working on the palo alto device. I personally always keep this book on my desk. Thank you Tom piens for this book.

I didn't finish reading the book but so far. I have gone through few topics, concepts are well explained. Step by step implementation with practical approach. It's a great book.

After receiving the book multiple pages was loose from the book. Content is good but book binding quality is very bad. Need Improvement !

Please do not buy any item from Amazon. Customer Services are worst.

El libro es perfecto, pero los FW Palo Alto, tienen problemas con la autenticación, tanto en FW físico, como en las VMs que dan para evaluación de 30 días. Es muy estresante y una perdida de tiempo por lo que implica. Como segunda opción adquirí Fortinet, lo probamos y fue un éxito.

PA devices are complicated compared to e.g. Zyxel security appliances. This book has good coverage of several PA configuration areas. Setting up network interfaces is covered briefly in this book. I struggled to configure network on a PA device because of my insufficient knowledge of networks. All in all, this is a useful book.

PA Firewall SME at work. if you are reading one book as a PA practioner it should be this one. Great for reference and for covering all the things that you need ot know about the PA firewall ecosystem.

Tom Piens’ Mastering Palo Alto Networks is a phenomenal guide to Palo Alto Networks PAN-OS based NGFWs whether you are just starting out and need to learn the fundamentals of bringing up your first NGFW or you are a seasoned security professional who wants to improve your care and feeding of your security deployment and are looking to optimize your policies or your troubleshooting of the deployment. His coverage of key GUI based (and CLI based) configuration will become your go-to reference on most things PAN-OS based. That includes, in Chapter 7, the efficiencies of using Panorama through leveraging templates and device groups and their hierarchy. Piens’ coverage of tools and troubleshooting show the debugging power inherent in the existing tools (logs, reports, session flow analysis). Readers should also look into Palo Alto Networks Iron Skillet templates and other tools available on Github. Chapter 14 is a challenge to cover all the myriad of deployment options in a cloud environment (public, private, hybrid), but Tom does a thorough job of addressing cloud based NGFW. I can see an entire book just covering these types of virtual deployments, including container based NGFWs whether they be DaemonSet based or CN as a Kubernetes service. My hope is that future updates or new references will cover PAN-OS new features like AIOps, Advanced Routing Engine and 5G Mobility.

I have been using Palo Alto firewalls professionally for a few years and have two in my home lab including my main home firewall (a PA-440 LAB edition). This book is simply a must-have for any firewall security engineer that works with these firewalls and I have certainly cemented my understanding of many topics (i.e. destination NAT, using VSYS, SSL decryption, etc.) Highly recommended!
