The Ex Next Door: An utterly charming and funny romance

Very enjoyable
A nice feel-good, funny and romantic read. A bit of a modern day Pride and Prejudice with a smoulderingly handsome rogue counterbalanced by a shy and awkward Mr Darcy. The author writes with warmth and humour. I'd read her books again.

Light-hearted
'The Ex Next Door' is a light-hearted read with quite a simple yet humorous plot at the centre. Esme is forced to move to temporary accommodation and finds herself living next to her ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend. From here, Esme is forced to confront whether she should be back with her ex or not.I did find this entertaining and I enjoyed it for the most part, however it was too long. There was not really enough meat to the plot for the length. It could have done with an additional plot thread or being slightly shorter in length.Having said this, I enjoyed getting to know Platt's quirky characters, they certainly brought some entertainment, and I found the plot to be funny and an easy read.Thank you to NetGalley and Canelo for an advance copy.

Enjoyable surprise
The outline of the plot made the story sound a bit predictable, but I bought it because I’ve read some Jo Platt books before and enjoyed them. This book is very good and the story does not unfold as you might expect. Great read.

Ex-iled to the country
Just finished reading The Ex Next Door - Esme was likable, albeit flawed; she seemed quite insecure and cagey around her business partner David; it came off as stilted and awkward; artist Jasmine was awful and artist Douglas was clearly troubled. Elliot is someone I definitely hated - gaslighting both Esme & Morgan, and running off like a coward. Towards the end, it was a little difficult to read between the lines & I made my own assumptions, whether or not the author intended for that to happen. It was good, but just not quite enough.

A Very Good Rom-Com
Esme and Eliott have been together for a long time--so long they have started to spat. One day Eliott leaves telling Esme she can call him if she wants. But she doesn't and 4 years later she is now living in Bristol and running an art gallery with her co-partner, David, when her new neighbors move in. Morgan and Elliot. Esme realizes she never moved on. A wonderful love story by Jo Platt.

The ending was easy to guess but I need happy endings right now. This book was just the right remedy.

Profound, touching and gripping!
What a wonderful book! It might be classified as ChickLit, but it's much more: profound, touching and even gripping to the last page.Jo Platt has never let me down - I'm really looking forward to the next book!
