Not a genuine 5MP DVR
This is the budget 5MP DVR offered by most of the CCTV solutions for home. I wanted a 5MP DVR over a 2MP and so opted this one. This allows 4 number of 5MP cameras, and it also mention that 2 additional IP cameras are supported (I've connected IP cameras to NVR. But not sure how to connect them to DVR).Pros of DVR:1. 5MP cameras for DVRs are cheap. They can be bought for 1500-2000 compared to 3MP IP cameras which costs 2300-3500 and 4MP IP cameras in the range of 4000-5000.2. 4 channel SMPS for these cameras costs around 600 where as 4 channel SMPS for IP cameras (which is called as POE switch) costs around 2800.3. So a 4 camera setup will cost at least 10,000 less than NVR camera setup.Cons of DVR:1. This DVR supports 5MP camera live viewing. But recording only supports 5MP-N resolution. Never seen such a resolution before. It means half of the vertical lines are omitted. So it is a kind of 2.5 MP resolution recording. NVRs support true resolutions. Check DVR specifications for live view and recording resolutions before buying.2. The fps supported was only up to 10 for 5MP resolution when I connected 2 cameras. When 3 were connected, it is now offering 7 fps recording. It can be improved by choosing 2 MP resolution. NVRs usually support 15fps for wifi IP cameras and 20-30fps for wired IP cameras in full resolution.3. Motion detection of all 4 cameras are handled by the DVR. So this is not able to identify motion detection correctly. Even if we set this to motion detection recording, it records almost continuously since a leaf blowing is also considered as motion. Motion detection in NVR is handled in each camera. So the detection is better as the hardware is inbuilt in each camera.4. There are tons of configuration in this DVR which is difficult to configure for a normal IT person. I own a TP-Link NVR where the configuration is much simple since there is only fewer configurations.Final thoughts:Live view clarity of 5MP cameras are appreciable. Price is very less compared to NVR and IP cameras, but the features and recording resolution are also below par. So choose this based on the true requirements.
