Drawing and Painting Beautiful Faces: A Mixed-Media Portrait Workshop

This is by far my favourite art book ever!It is a thing of beauty as well as a brilliant *how to* book.I love the beautiful *Jane* drawings and paintings throughout - sometimes printed in unusual ways which made me see stuff differently, always a good thing for anyone with artistic aspirations.At the beginning there are sections on supplies which have led me to find all kinds of fun new products to try.There are many detailed instructional pieces on all the aspects of drawing and painting faces such as hair, eyes etc. as well as step by step techniques to paint particular styles of girls.The step by step pieces also detail what products are used which is super-helpful, although one doesn't need to use those exact items it's handy to get a sense of what shades and types of supply do what.Jane's style of teaching is fun, easy to understand and even though I've barely *scratched the surface* of this book I have drawn faces I never dreamed I could do as a result.So many ideas packed into one book - I can't recommend it highly enough!

If you are looking for a book to learn how to draw faces then look no further. As soon as it arrived I started to glance through but then couldn't put it down. This is a BIG book, full to the brim with colour and inspiration! Every inch is packed and not just useless blurb. The process is broken down into easy to follow/practice/learn sections before moving on, the text is light hearted and fun. Face, features, hair, colouring etc are all dealt with individually and thoroughly, it is a pleasure to work through. Having read through a number of books on the subject, this is by far the best and I have not regret buying it.

Jane has a gift of encouraging you that is rarely found. An amazing teacher her book is a delight to use. I can now draw faces that look like how I imagined them to and more importantly, am having so much fun drawing and rediscovering long since forgotten supplies. I can see how much progress I've made and I'm only half way through the book. Too many drawing books are serious and forget that art is supposed to be fun and enjoyable. I'm now taking one of her classes I'm enjoying the book so much. An absolute treasure for anyone wanting to learn or improve their drawing whatever their style.

A fantastic book if you want to draw faces, but don’t want them to be perfectly realistic. I discovered Jane on YouTube and haven’t stopped drawing since. I have always drawn, but I can honestly say I have improved in leaps and bounds. She has opened a new world for me in the form of mixed media and I have also discovered other great teachers on YouTube who are very similar. The downside is I have spent an absolute fortune on new art supplies of every description. Oh dear, sorry not sorry :)

A fantastic book for anyone who loves art and drawing. There’s so much colour in this book. Every page is inspiring. After receiving this book, I went on Amazon and bought two more- whimsical girls and fabulous figures. All of them are amazing and I just can’t stop reading them.

As with all Jane's books the illustrations are beautiful and easy to follow.I have her other 2 books and was disappointed to find the inner pages of this book to be matte,not glossy like her Figures book. Also i found the introduction pages to be very dull and almost like photocopy's.I know this was Jane's first book and was with a different publisher to her other 2 books so this may be why.Overall a stunning book with beautiful artwork by Jane but disappointed with the quality which is reflected in me giving 4 stars

I adore Jane Davenports art. This book has taught me so much about how to draw faces I'm amazed. I'm so impressed I signed up to her course of lessons, based on this book and learnt even more. If you want to be able to create art like Jane's style you absolutely can using her easy techniques. The book is just so beautiful to look at even if you don't want to create art though.

I was put off buying this for sometime. I have a few of Jane Davenport's books already and did not want to just draw faces. But I am glad I did get it in the end. It is full of help tips about products as well designs and is a really nice book. Probably my best JD book.
