Roth Audio VA4 Pair of Active Speakers (Red)

Brilliant piece of kit, impressive sound output and quality for the size of the speakers. Because of internal amplifier, there is no necessity to fiddle around with additional cables and connections allowing a very quick set up with what ever devices are being used and then getting on with the simple pleasure of listening to the depth of sound that is produced. I can't imagine there is much that cannot be connected for audio input, but as everything I use from my mobile devices to 'Vinyl' works , then I'm not bothered to investigate further !

Having just returned to vinyl after over 20 years I recently purchased myself a Rega P1 Turntable and needed a set of speakers to go with them. Space is limited for me so I knew I didn't want to have to get a large set of speakers and an amp at this time so did a little research and came up with these. Reviews seemed positive, the price was within my budget and the fact that they had a built in pre-amp and were also Bluetooth were really what sold it for me. I have the speakers connected to the turntable by cable and the first time I played my vinyl through these I was literally blown away. It was likely because i've been listening to digital music for the past 15 years through a combination of cheap headphones, cheap bluetooth or laptop speakers and had forgot what music should really sound like. I also like the option and convenience of streaming digital music from iTunes or Apple music from my laptop or phone to these speakers via Bluetooth and even the sound there is vastly improved. But vinyl on a half decent turntable is always my preferred option. These desktop speakers are small, look lovely in Red and are powerful enough to fill any small room. I've had zero issues with them over the last 9 months or so and therefore can easily recommend them.

Would love to leave a review saying these were amazing but I can’t Very excited as Audio-Technica turntable and speakers arrived today, looking forward to playing vinyl... Set up simple and straightforward however when plugged in the blue light next to the green power light continued to flash Remote control unresponsive Called Roth Tech Support and advised that there was nothing I could do and would need to return Agree with what everyone else has said re the remote Unfortunately this experience has put me off these speakers, first impressions etc so am returning and now looking for an alternative active speaker as I’m sat here with a new turntable and no way of listening to anything!

Reviews of the Roth VA4 from various sources on the internet (including What Hi-Fi) have been highly favourable so I have no doubt that these speakers delivery good sound quality. Unfortunately, when connected via bluetooth, my set of Roth VA4s emitted an electrical-type crackling and buzzing noise which was audible on the other side of the room. Two people in the Amazon Question and Answer section have also referred to this problem so I can only presume that there is a quality control issue in the manufacturing process. This is a pity because the overall design and feel of the speakers engenders a sense that they have been well made and should be a good product - hence the two stars. Sadly, I have returned mine for a refund.

I had previously given these 5 starts but I have noticed similar issues that other people have experienced. When in Bluetooth mode there is a loud crackle noise that can only be muted if you put your Bluetooth device on top of the main speaker which renders Bluetooth mode useless. For me it is not a complete deal breaker as I bought these for my Rega Planar 1 record player. However the remote is also made of very cheap materials and buttons do not work properly as mentioned in another review. At this price-point you would simply expect better and I was left disappointed because of these issues.

High quality active speakers. The sound is clear and crisp with decent bass for small speakers. They pair really quickly with my iPad and the remote is useful too. There's plenty of volume on tap. If you read the reviews of any or Roth's products, it's easy to see why this company has such a good reputation and this influenced me in choosing Roth. Highly recommended!

Simply brilliant for the price. Punch above their size as far as sound is concerned too, and I’ve previously owned bigger speakers. Nice finish in red.

Just picked these up to provide a simple solution for a second home to listen to vinyl and bluetooth streaming, and was actually quite pleasantly surprised by the sound quality. Don't expect the warmth and depth of expensive speakers driven by a high end tube amp and you will be very happy. Sound reproduction is natural, crisp and clear. Bluetooth works great too. Only reason I didn't give them 5* is the remote quality, but they probably deserve it for everything else. Im not sure you could put together a set of speakers, phone-amp and amp for 2-3X the cost and sound as good. Really a great product.
