Simple, easy to use
My old Dewalt heat gun stopped working, so I found this one on amazon. Its great value for money. I didn't expect it to be so good for the price. It softens adhesives and bends plastic easily, which is what I use it for. Its lightweight too. The nozzles that come with it are great and make it incredibly versatile.

DeWalt mains heat gun
I bought this as battery powered units simply do not have the power to finish a job. I am using it to apply wax to my outdoor kit - coats, boots, bags etc and it it works exceptionally well. Very simple to use. Just dial in the required temp (marked at + and -, no actual value) and pull the trigger. The heat gun comes with two diffusers to get a narrow heat output or a broad output. There is a strangle rattle from the gun from the outset which I don't understand but it performs as expected.

excellent high quality product
I am currently stripping the paint from the sofits around my house* and made the classic mistake of buying a cheaper product from Homebase. That product lasted a couple of hours before it broke. So I ordered this one. As you would expect, this product is robust and reliable. It produces plenty of heat and has been very effective. I have used it almost constantly for the last 5 days and it has not over heated or in any way been impaired. I've only used it on the maximum settings, so can't comment on the variable heat settings or the variable blower setting. I would however definitely recommend this product. It is not too heavy, which is important when you have to hold it above your head for a couple of hours. Note, however, that the nozzle supplied with it which looks like a scraper is NOT a scraper. You would need to hold this in one hand and use your scraper in the hand.* word to the wise ... if you are planning to do this, all I would say is that it's one of the worst and hardest DIY jobs I've ever done, so approach with caution and plan for it to take longer than you expect. This for me is primarily because you have to work above your head and applying pressure at that angle is difficult and exhausting.

Great for removing layers of paint
No long ago we bought a 1930's property that needed complete modernisation inside and judging by the fixtures and fittings hadn't been decorated in 20 years. There were several doorways and cupboards in the hallway area (7 doors and 2 cupboards), as well as 2 small wooden window frames - all were caked decades of layers of paint.Combined with a couple of good sharp scrapers this Dewalt hot gun helped immensely in stripping back all the paint to the bare wood. The gun comes with a couple of different nozzles, I found the round and flat ones to both work well. I had the heat setting on max which was more than hot enough to help lift even the toughest areas of paint. It took probably about half a day per door frame (both sides). The Dewalt gun performed without any issue, the fold out stand on the back of the gun was a handy feature when I had to put the gun down to cool or when I needed a break. Sometimes I found the nozzles a bit difficult to swap over as they get stuck to the gun, twisting them back and forth helps release them a bit easier. Can't fault this product, well worth it for the price.

Not so good for paint stripping
Bought this to strip off facia boards on a garage. It’s quite a lot to be done but main concern here is the fear of a flame passing through to inside of the roof and starting a fire if I used my gas Bunsen. First impression is that, it’s so slow with this method of electric heater. It’s not viable and I just can’t trust myself working at height this slowly. I’ve resorted to the good old blow torch, did 8 foot board in under an hour. It’s a risk trade off for speed. I’ll use the heat gun on edges where the flame could ingress behind. The DeWalt just didn’t get hot enough at 600 degrees and there isn’t the coverage that you get from the old gas can. I’d done my homework too, specifically picking this mains 1800w power version over battery options. I think indoor jobs, perhaps intricate profiles suit this device but large surfaces outside and you are really going to have to be patient. The gun is well made and will no doubt have more successful uses. Not for me though.
