Fantastic product for a multi-cat household
This is a fantastic product. It doesn't just stop any non-authorised cats coming in, the dual scan function allows you to control which ones can go out too - very useful in a multi-cat household. We've been using it for 3 months to allow our adult cat free access in and out of the house without allowing our new kittens to follow him!The unit is quick and simple to install, and fitted the hole made for the old cat flap. The programming options are extensive, and easy to operate with the clearly-worded manual. It has several modes, including vet mode and safety mode. I've set up the safety mode option for the 3 new kittens so that if they do accidentally get out, they can all get back in again. You can programme in up to 12 cats. My partner tells me this is not a challenge and that I should be happy with 4...This cat flap is battery powered, unlike other makes I've used before, so you have no issues with trailing cables, or if there is a power cut. The manufacturers suggest testing the battery regularly, and changing it yearly - I've set a reminder for myself to change the batteries every 6 months to avoid any problems.I've previously used PetPorte, which was good, but I ended up replacing twice because of non-specific faults which the (usually very helpful) customer service team couldn't resolve. At around £100 a time, it was becoming expensive. I'm glad to have found this Sureflap cat flap as an alternative, and am likely to be purchasing a second one for the other door in the not too distant future.

Good, keeps visitors out.
The media could not be loaded. If you have visitor neighbour cats and want to keep them out, this is the model you want. The cheaper model only has a microchip latch on the inside, a smart cat will simply paw the flap outwards. This model has a latch on the outside as well as the inside, thus stops them pawing it open.My cat manages to use it fine, and he’s not the smartest cat going. Looks sturdy, not too worried about the neighbours cat physically braking it.Minor criticism, there is a bit of an air gap around the top of the flap, might let a draft in winter.

Good item
We used one of those before, bought again to replace another broken one. It's not too big so, for example, a maincoon might have to squeeze through.

Great cat flap enabling our 3 to come and go as they like without the stress of having any strays come in (though one did - see below) 🙄You can programme multiple cats, and can programme to lock for individual cats if they have a medical condition / are elderly and need to stay in, whilst allowing the others to go out.Easy to install - HOWEVER because we had this installed into a double glazed unit we had to get a glazier to fit it. If we’d had a solid door or door panel then my husband could easily have done it.The downside - during both recent storms our cat flap doesn’t shut after one of the cats has come in - the door isn’t heavy enough and it’s left swinging into the house in the wind letting the cold in. Only the other day after a really bad storm my husband found a stray cat locked in the kitchen - the opportunist came in when the flap was left swinging in the wind. We’ve rectified this by putting 2 strong magnets on the flap giving it some weight so it should now close after our cats have come indoors during windy conditions. The other downside - it eats our batteries!! Batteries are meant to last at least 6 months, maybe a year - but in 3 months we’ve had to replace the 4 batteries 5 TIMES! They seem to last between 2 and 4 weeks. Also the batteries are never fully used - we tested them and it seems only a fraction of the battery is used each time - and we’ve tried lots of different brands. I’ve contacted the company who say to check if fur is left on the top draught excluded as this makes the batteries be in ‘on’ all the time, but this is something I’d already checked each time and we haven’t any fur debris.I do wonder if it was the flap being open during the windy weather that may have caused the flap to be ‘on’. Unsure as yet.One of the side draught excluders disappeared not long after we’d had it too - found it outside. Have glued it back in place, but disappointed it came adrift after a short time.Lastly. Your door will not be as draught proof when you have this cat flap installed. There will be some cold air getting through however well it’s installed.Though I love the cat flap, I’ve knocked off 1 star for the batteries.
