The HP35S is a tribute version of the HP35, the first HP pocket calculator which I saw at university when it first came out - it blew a considerable portion of the department budget. Accordingly, it is a simple RPN calculator built on more recent electronics which far exceed the design limitations of the original HP35, although the functionality is the same. The number of program steps is difficult to quantify, as it is dependent on what is programmed, but a data variable uses up to 37 bytes (type indicator and 3 floating point variables for a single vector). With 30Kbytes of user memory, this is unlikely to be an issue! As there is no card reader (unlike say, the HP41 or even the venerable HP67), the length of program entered (and more importantly re-entered) is limited by usability considerations. The statistics menus in the HP 35s provide functions to statistically analyze a set of one– or two–variable data(real numbers): Mean, sample and population standard deviations. Linear regression and linear estimation Weighted mean (x weighted by y). Summation statistics: n, Σx, Σy, Σx2, Σy2, and Σxy. You could program it to handle solutions for other distributions, but the lack of card reader puts a limitation on loading and reloading complex applications in the field - which is why I still prefer the HP41 over later machines like the HP48.

35s and 35s/B12 - what's the difference?
