Seiko ER3700 Oxford Crossword Solver

This was bought for my elderly mum, she loves it, nice big buttons clear raised screen, can sit it on table & tap in words so don't need to hold it. Good variety of functions more than my mum would use. She is very happy with it

Excellent! this Oxford crossword solver was a replacement of my old machine of the same.I like to do puzzles and when I get stuck the solver comes in very useful.The Oxford crossword solver is dark blue with blue and white keys. I find this Seiko ER3700 Oxford Crossword Solver to be a good buy with the main niggle being there being no way to disable or vary the auto-turn-off feature (at least I haven't found one). This means quite often, it turns off just before I'm ready to use it for the next clue and so I have to go through the turn on/select function/press 'ENTER' each time - sounds not a big deal but it does get tedious!Not all words in the dictionary are in the thesaurus but the dictionary is impressive. I love the 'QWERTY' keyboard which means it's second nature to 'drive' rather than having to think about it. The LCD display is large and easy to read with adjustable contrast in the 'SET' menu. Another niggle is that when trying similar words out by changing an early letter, there is no way of scrolling to the beginning of a word entry without the latter part of the word being deleted in the process. This means you've got to type the whole thing in again every time. There is a letter changer function, but I prefer to choose one myself to suit my train of thought. 'Crossword' and 'Anagram' functions are my favourites!The calculator function is useful for mathematical puzzles. In 'CALC' mode, the red captions on the keyboard become active and there is no need to press a separate key every time you want a number or function. Functions include add/subtract/multiply/divide/per-cent and there's also a standard calculator memory system MC/MR/M+/M- too. There is no 'square-root' function.The only game I've tried so far is traditional 'hangman' which is fine - you don't get a pictogram though, just X/Y display of successful guesses/failures.Hope this is helpful . . .

I have found it useful when doing my crosswords as it has many parts to it sometimes I need to sort a anagram another its a spelling and also you can play games like hangman which my children like to play. I would recommend this as it has helped me and a very useful gadget.

I bought this to replace one I've had for more than 20 years. It is very easy to use, responds well. The only thing I would say is that in order to clear the letters you've used you have to clear them one at a time. My old one you could do it in one move.

This is at least my 4th ER3700 Crossword Solver purchased. I would like to make two comments to Seiko, 1st the battery compartment needs a change from the tiny grub screw fastening (gets worn) - make a secure click shut mechanism - but that is not so important as the batteries don't need changing for a long time, The 2nd concerns wear and tear on the button which gets the most usuage by a long chalk and that is the down button. You really need to strengthen/thicken the underlay - it will last a long time but it becomes usless with everything else working except the button you use all the time to go through the word and anagram search list.Amazon - you will not find it cheaper anywhere but please ask them to sort that button out.Old Codger

I was looking for a crossword solver that did a bit of everything . This is brilliant and the knowledge view is fantastic it solves nearly all the questions I need answers to . My twin was so impressed I sent her one to Canada . This is a definate must for all avid crossworders out there . I would not be without mine , it is small enough to slip in your hwndbag , and big enough for people with fingers that find it hard to hold small things . The buttons are ideal not too fiddly to use . I would definitely recommend this product .

I bought this for my wife whose present machine is ancient. She has not attempted to use it at present. I have had a quick look but need to study it longer. Both my wife and I are in our 80's and our computer knowledge is limited. We do a lot of crosswords and these tools are very useful. I have a" 6700" and is good but old. We will work it out.
