Q: How do you fix this if the pieces come loose?

Don't take it apart deliberately and be careful when turning otherwise pieces can fall out or be forced out. I've only had this happen when using the 6x6 which is a totally different design. If many pieces come out you need to see how corresponding pieces that have not (yet!) fallen out fit together. (The 6x6 has 'hidden' pieces that you only see when the cube is pulled apart.) With the 6x6, I reassembled layers up until the top layer. When assembling the top layer, I twisted it by 45 degrees and filled the pieces starting at the corners and working inwards. This approach might work for the 7x7.
