The Wombles

Between 1968-1976 The Wombles were created in the book series by Elizabeth Beresford, and were designed and featured in the Childrens Television production by Ivor Wood for which the BBC commissioned back in the early 1970s.The fictional furry character animals depicted bear like looks with floppy ears and were basically eco friendly warriors that encapsulated environmental movement at the time. Remember the 'Keep Britain Tidy' campaign. Professional musician genius Mike Batt wrote both music and lyrics and sang the theme tune to the TV series.Using the characters from The Wombles, Mike Batt fronted the now 1970s iconic pop group, where virtually all the songs on the four albums depicted the world of the wombles. All the songs on the albums were fabulously arranged and produced and sang by Mike Batt where he was in the Orinoco costume when performed in shows that included Top Of The Pops. The songs are catchy, with a wide array of instruments used.Each album are 10/10 for me!!Album 1: WOMBLING SONGS is a neat introduction with the TV Version of the theme 'The Wombling Song'. It also has the pop hit 'full version' that reached no. 4 in the UK Singles Charts.Album 2: REMEMBER YOU'RE A WOMBLE has a fab array of songs. Some noticeable standouts are the UK Chart no.3 'Remember you're a Womble' 'Minuetto Allegretto' 'Banana Rock' (Enjoyably Quirky) and 'Wellington Goes to the Waterloo' (I dig the instruments arrangements on this one!)Album 3: KEEP ON WOMBLING reached no. 17 in the UK Album Charts. Like all the Womble albums the songs, they are storytelling. Some highlights are 'The Orinoco Kid' 'Womble of the Universe' and 'Hall of the Mountain Womble'.Album 4: SUPERWOMBLING is the final 'Pop Group' studio album. One of my all time favourite Womble track is 'Superwomble'. I just love the arrangements on this and Super hero lyrics. This song only reached no. 20 in the UK Charts! It should have been higher. Standouts for me are 'Wombles on Parade' and 'Nashville Wombles'.Of course these are my favourite standouts. Other listeners will have theirs.Mike Batt's music of the Wombles is just a facet of his brilliant talent. He was a young musician back then to create all the Wombles music, which is very apparent of iconic British music from the 1970s when looked upon today. Mike Batt went on very successfully in the Record Industry as singer-songwriter, musician, arranger, record producer, director and conductor. He wrote the no.1 Hit 'Bright Eyes' sang by Art Garfunkel.For the actual CD Box Set itself is a direct virtual reissue of the 2010 individual CD releases with both album cover and song lyrics booklets for each of the 4 albums. Instead they are house in a cardboard sleeve where the CD slots in and out with ease. They are all enclosed in a neat sturdy clamshell box.Like the previous CD issues from 2010, the booklets are identical with no liner notes/information or photos other than the original lp covers. On Mike Batt's twitter he said he wanted to release the 4 studio albums together for the first time in a box set and the 2010 CD reissues will basically depict that. The stereo sound quality on all the CDs is excellent. Mike also mentions an 'Extras and Rarities' Disc could maybe do at another time. Hopefully this will include liner notes and loads of memorabilia/womble photos!!If you missed out on the Individual reissued CDs from 2010, this 4 CD box set is a must buy for fans or people who like The Wombles Music.

Some great memories for me on these cds with sing along lyrics booklets. The original eco team with their tidy bags.

..there's no the italian version of REMEMBER YOU'RE A WOMBLE. What a pity !

All the wombles singles are on this box set and you will be ready to womble, an excellent collection :)

But then I would say that, wouldn't I! 4 albums with 4 booklets all packed in a nice handy and attractive box. Every home should have one!

This is a fantastic 4 CD collection of the Wombles albums in a really nice box issued in 2022.But…This CD set does not contain ‘Let’s Womble To The Party Tonight’.The CDs are the original 2010 issues from Dramatico which were released in separate CD jewel cases so not pressed in 2022.It’s a shame this set couldn’t have been a new 2022 reissue with all of their songs all together.…These are not complaints but just to note.I absolutely adore these albums and this boxed set is a perfect addition to my Wombles collection.Each CD is housed in a cardboard case and has a separate booklet with all the lyrics.- The albums were released from 1973-1975All songs are written, produced and arranged by Mike Batt.My favourite songs are Wombling Merry Christmas, Minuetto Allegretto, The Wombling Song, Banana Rock, Wombling In The Rain and Down At The Barber Shop (Singing In Harmony).- Such treasured memories never forgotten.Wombling Merry Christmas is a classic Christmas Song released in 1974 and is one of the best Christmas songs ever.A fantastic collection ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
