Startech - Drive Eraser dock with KN support
I like this Stardock Drive Eraser dock. Easy to use, and always do a greate job. Very good quality also. Its only one thing i didnt like. The eraser dock couldnt handle WD VelociRaptor hard-drive ? The eraser dock become dangerous hot, and couldnt finish the eraser job with WD Velociraptor disks. But the Eraser dock works fine on all other disks. Another thing ... The price is to expensive for many customer. This item could sell much more if the price was lower. I almost canseled my order because of the expensive price, not because of the quality of the product. I hope more people could afford to buy this greate product, and experiance the eraser dock tool on their hard-drives. Blessings from Tony - Norway

Works with receipt printer, so far so good
I've been testing this unit rigorously for about a week. After running about 50 drives through this thing during the past few weeks, I can say that it is worth the money to anyone that has to securely and verifiably erase a large volume of drives. After considering bulkier standalone duplicator / eraser units, as well as software only solutions, I decided on this dock / eraser. I can erase drives without having to have my workstation dedicated to the task as well as use the dock for traditional USB access. I do have a receipt printer connected to this unit and it works flawlessly. Upon a successful wipe of any kind, a receipt is printed detailing the drive model, serial number, capacity, the erase type, and the start and finish times of the wipe. This information is also stored in a log on the eraser dock itself and may be retrieved / reprinted at any time. The wipe receipt even includes a signature line. If you decide to use this dock with a receipt printer, be sure that it's a serial printer (9600 baud, etc) similar to the old Epson POS printers. All things considered, this was a slam dunk of a purchase and I couldn't be happier.

Very useful! Almost perfect!
I'm a big fan of StarTech products. I've been using their adapters for many years. I find their line of secure HDD/SSD erasers to be a little inconsistent. Ideally, I wanted to buy one product that did EVERYTHING and was willing spend more. Unfortunately, I ended up with two products. There were a number of differences between the two products (e.g. the menus, the displays, look and feel, one worked with the IDE to SATA adapter and the other didn't, etc.) The biggest rub on this one was not knowing the percentage complete as it was running. The other product I own (SDOCK1EU3P2) does. In conclusion, this product works well and does a lot (duplication, secure erase, dock, etc.) but I'd still like a countdown to progress for time management purposes. Hopefully in their next product.

Great Stand Alone Device
This is perfect example of something that only does one thing and does it extremely well. I had a pile of hard drives I needed securely erased. I just plopped them in and followed the easy instructions and then walked away and let it do its thing. I erased 10 hard drives in a row and encountered no problems. Note: it is not fast process 4TB WD Blue 3.5 inch hard drives took a little over 23 hours to wipe with a 3 pass DOD secure erase.

Failed after 2.5 years... zero offer of support from StarTech
This product worked well for a couple of years, but then suddenly failed at around the 2.5 year mark. It is connected downstream from a UPS, which is also downstream from a commercial surge protector for the lab environment in which it operates. The warranty, according to StarTech, is 2 years. Support relays that the extra several months beyond this render it a complete loss - with zero willingness to assist, whether in terms of RMA concessions or even repair options at some sort of discounted cost. Two separate calls to support yielded no results. Disassembly reveals what appears to be a single blown component on a LCD daughterboard; likely replaceable I'd have to assume for a reasonable cost. I have been a StarTech customer of 20 years now professionally. I expect industrial grade products to last longer than this - or, at the very least, be eligible for some sort of repair support. Take it from me: Wiebetech makes a better product - and they have superior support.

Easy to use. Does what it claims.
I bought this strictly for the drive erasing feature, so I won't talk about it's capabilities as a dock or print receipt function. It does was it says, makes erasing drives easy. I'm using some smaller 256 - 512 GB Samsung/WD Red SSDs in a home lab set up for experiments with different file systems. It completes a 1 pass erase on those in about 15 and 30 minutes respectively. Larger drives take a while. Doing a 1 pass erase of a 10 TB Seagate Iron Wolf Pro HDD takes about 14 hours.

My StarTech eraser arrived well packaged; "the construction build is outstanding" and menu selection is more than sufficient to do the job. I even used recovery method's in attempt to recover information from the drive after it was sanitized and failed. The unit lived up to it's name and passed with flying colors, I highly recommend this item when it comes to sensitive information removal.

Found this when my old hard drive eraser decided to give up the ghost. Works at the same speed (around 4 hours for a 500GB drive on HMG-IS5). I've done around 30 drives now, all sanitised without a problem. Checked using a software recovery tool and cant get a thing back after a 36 hour deep scan, so works brilliantly.

Beim ersten Gerät war das Display defekt. Der Lieferant hat das anstandslos umgetauscht. Daher empfehlenswert, für den Defekt kann auch der Lieferant nichts.
