Perfect for gigs
A few years ago a gig left me with tinnitus, and I've been very careful (in a "horse has bolted" sort of way) about what I expose my ears to ever since. I'd tried the freebie foam earplugs at one concert but they were rubbish - the higher frequency sounds were lowered far more than others, so everything was just horribly muffled. I had been led to believe that decent earplugs would be very expensive and need to be professionally fitted, but with another gig coming up I found these got good reviews, so well worth giving a go. I even persuaded my girlfriend (doesn't have tinnitus) to try a pair too. I used the gold inserts for stronger attenuation and she (after trying the gold) settled on the silver inserts. Comparing notes afterwards we were both very happy with them. Far from muffling the sound, it seemed to reduce it evenly. In the past I generally struggle to hear lyrics clearly at a concert, mostly due to the volume I guess. We both noticed that the vocals were actually much clearer than without hearing protection! Also, because the physical sensation from the low bass is still just as strong, you still feel "there". Another great effect of these, is after leaving the concert and removing the earplugs we could chat to each other normally, and had no ringing in the ears - a first! The screw cap container is a nice touch too - something like this is pretty much essential to make sure you don't lose the tiny inserts. I wish I could think of something negative to say to give this review some balance, but I just can't. My only regret is that I didn't think to get these a couple of years ago - I would almost certainly be tinnitus free now.

Great
Great ear plugs, I could not find any that will seat in my ear for longer than 5 sec without falling off. Those are very comfortable and tested on 2 venues with medium insert - works very well does not muffle sound. Easy to use and they come with handy ear applicator and carry case.

Great Ear plugs
Tried different brands in the past and they were all quite hard and painful in my ears and didn't really help with sound. These are comfortable, fit really well and stay securely in my ears even when bouncing round to music at gigs like a crazy person. I have no buzzing in my ears after gigs and this is a first. The only down side was with some music, they seemed to cancel out some sound that was a big part of tracks so I ended up taking one out every now and then (I was using the silver/medium at the time). I believe there is a set with a low filter so may invest in them as well for the times when the medium is too much.

Plug tastic
Bought these plugs for my wife, she has recently taken up the drums and they are easy and comfortable to wear. The plugs help to zone out the very loud reverb ringing from the cymbals but doesn't detract from the overall sound quality. Also found them to be great for concerts, again doesn't detract from music, you can have a conversation clearly with the person beside you and they prevent the after gig ringing in the ears.

The plugs worked well as the silver filter was good for any situation that is a bit noisy like a bar where you could still have a conversation but loud sounds were filtered out. The gold is good when playing in a band in small venues. The only drawback is that if you put the case on your key ring it tends to unscrew itself and you loose the plugs. Maybe someone has a simple solution to that but I don't.

These ear plugs has been great and the small carry case fits on to a key chain or in your pocket discretely. I've used these when going to loud music events over the years and they stop you waking up with buzzing ears for weeks after. The price is really affordable so it doesnt matter to much if you loose them all the time like i do.

VERY overpriced, nothing special, bit of a rip off!
Bought these because the claims in the write up made them sound superior to previous ones I've had. I had the Quiet Zone ones before (£6.21) but left them somewhere and lost them, so needed replacements. These Alpine ones at £14 (reduced from £19.99?!) are exactly the same however, just a lot more expensive. The offer no difference in protection or even options, as the Quiet Zone also comes with 2 sets of variable end caps, and a much nicer storage case. Therefore I feel a bit ripped off to be honest, as I could have have 2 SETS of the others for less money. Don't waste yours...

Case is plastic not metal!
I was disappointed to discover that the little carry case tube is plastic, not metal. I don't really feel secure having it on my key ring the whole time, which is kind of the point of it, to have the earplugs with you incase you unexpectedly end up at a gig or something/somewhere really loud. That said, they haven't fallen off/been lost yet, but if they were, I don't think i'd buy this particular product again. I felt a bit misled as the plastic is painted to look like metal, and in the photo you can't see the difference, and to be fair for the money I paid I expected something durable. The earplugs themselves are good, but not good to the point of being worth so much extra money compared to similar ones that have a different case. Like literally you can get the same earplugs for half the price if you dont want the little tube carry case. The case is what you're paying for here, and it's represented as metal, and it turns out to be plastic. Bummer.

I bought these when I found the Etymotics were not comfortable in my left ear. These fit great and did the job of reducing the volume. No more ringing after standing near the stage with the music blasting. My wife who was at first against wearing the ear plugs tried them at an Irish Scottish festival and it saved her ears. She at first was by a speaker which was causing much discomfort and then she put in the Alpine ear plugs and voila she was fine for the rest of the time. They are easy to put in and take out. I use my fingers, however, you can use the insertion tool that comes with the plugs. A very nice canister carrying case comes with the plugs to keep them safe from the elements when not in use. You can attach the canister to a clip and carry it that way. I just put it in my pocket and always have them handy. I would prefer the bottom of the canister not be rounded as it can not stand up when placed upright. Just a minor problem - no biggie. I can clearly say I like these and carry them to movies or anywhere there is going to be loud sounds. I use the gold inserts as I want the full protection. You can still talk with them in although it is a bit more difficult as your own voice volume is difficult to hear. I take them in and out depending on the venue. If acts are coming on and there is a break in between I sometimes remove the plugs and once the music starts again I can easily put them back in. I love them and my wife loves them. Worth every cent you pay for the Alpine hearing protection. These really do save your hearing. BTW I have tinnitus and these are a must for me. I know the Etymotic ear plugs have so many more reviews, however, I tried them and they just were not as comfortable as the Alpine ear plugs. The Alpine plugs are softer and IMHO offer as much noise protection. Just an aside, if you have heard of the group Albannach who play bagpipes and drums (Tribal Scottish music)they have two members who protect their ears. Jackie uses the Alpine protection and if it is good enough for her and always being around extremely loud sounds it is good enough for me. Addendum (June 1, 2013) - I have been wearing these to every music event and usually movies I attended since I originally wrote the review. The protection has been solid and love the ease of putting them in and taking them out. As others have said, you can put these earplugs in only using your fingers. There really is no need for the insertion tool so don't be afraid if you do lose it as I don't use it and get the plugs to fit in my ears every time without a problem. They have remained extremely comfortable and I truly don't even know I am wearing them.
