Q: is it coated aluminium or stainless steel please

We used this press for ages and loved it but as others have said after a while the coating came off and it would discolour the garlic, so I would not recommend it. To be fair it lasted for ages before this happened and up until then, it was a great press. It was always the one we would use before the Jamie Oliver one that we have as well.

Q: How much of a clove gets wasted and left in the press when using this?

Having not used any other garlic presses before I cannot compare this with others, but what I can say is that very little of the clove gets wasted. In fact the only part of the clove which is left is the residue under the skin which is only natural. Hope that helps.

Q: Zyliss from a few years ago, when I scrape the garlic from crusher's base, fragments of silver paint end up in my salad dressing, same with this?

The Zyliss garlic press comes with a a plastic brush for cleaning which would be impossible to scrape the coating off. If you are using a sharp metal object like a knife you might have problems.

Q: Heading states stainless steel, but information states aluminium. Which is it please?

It is coated aluminium great until the it flakes off. At that point it is hand wash only as a dishwasher causes the aluminium to oxidise and create a grey residue. You can wash the residue off but not ideal. If you can afford to replace every couple of years or are prepared to only hand wash then works great.
