Very useful
Price was a bummer for me, hence the minus 1 star. For the price I paid $70, I wish I could’ve bought more than one. However it was far more useful in the classroom than I could have imagined. You have to define the nucleus, and you must position the pieces so that the protons look like + signs and not x’s. Otherwise, it’s been a wonderful educational tool for my class.

Great tool for showing layouts of atoms
I used this model to demonstrate to some Boy Scouts the concepts of protons, electrons, neutrons and isotopes, and they were able to get a handle on it quickly. This was the only good "atom" kit I could find - most other kits allow you to demonstrate building atoms into molecules, but don't help with explaining the parts of an atom. If you are looking for a way to make these "subatomic concepts" make sense to kids, this works!

Works well in the classroom
Used this while working with 7th grade ESL students. The model allowed students to make their Bohr's atom representations in a tactile manner before recording them on paper. The size meant they could just share what they made with the rest of the group and the group could see it easily. We used both too and bottom so two groups could be using the pieces from the same model.
