Make sure you select the 2.4GHZ Wi-fi setting on your cellphone!
I failed setting these Smart Plugs up multiple times until I realized after some online research, my dual AT&T router (with both 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ capability) automatically uses 5GHZ on my iPhone (as I suspect most modern routers and cell phones do nowadays). 5GHZ will not work with the Smart Life app on your cellphone with these particular Smart Plugs. The app only works with 2.4GHZ as it says in the product description. So I went into my router gateway settings and activated the guest network which only uses 2.4GHZ. This involved getting the access code off the back of the router, entering that in the gateway settings, activating the guest network and renaming it with a new password. I then switched my iPhone to the wi-fi guest network, went through the add device setup process on the app and voila! the app then recognized the Smart Plugs. The directions come on a very small instruction sheet and my 70 year old eyes literally needed a magnifying glass under a light to read and decipher them.It also took me a while to discover how to rename the Smart Plug. That's done by tapping the Smart Plug name. On the next screen, up in the right hand corner, there is a pen & pad icon. Tap that, and then tap it again on the next screen to get to the name. Tap the directional arrow on the right of the screen again to get to the rename screen. There you can name your plug whatever you want, hit confirm and you've then finally completed the task. Yeah, clunky interface. Tell me about it.By the way, you can set up your Smart Plug on any outlet. Then you can move it to the outlet you want to control. And if applicable, like in my instance, you can then switch your iPhone back to your 5GHZ wi-fi setting and everything will still work. Just remember to switch to your 2.4GHZ wi-fi setting if you ever want to set up another one of these plugs.I also connected the Smart Plugs to run with my Echo Dot through the Alexa phone app. That was a breeze compared to the initial Smart Life setup. So all in all, setting these Smart Plugs up only took me 4 hours, involving 3 separate apps (AT&T Internet, Smart Life, and Alexa) and now my wife can turn on the upstairs and downstairs Christmas tree lights by just telling Alexa to do it for her.Now I think I'll put away the magnifying glass, take my blood pressure medicine and fix myself a stiff drink because I surely need one after all that.

Even with socket size limitations they make your home smarter!
The 'deal' price point of around eleven dollars made this a no-brainer purchase. The one disappointing feature is the shape and/or size of the socket. Slightly elongating or reducing the overall diameter of the socket allows for two sockets in the same outlet would give your product far more desirability in the marketplace. At the current configuration one can only use one of your smart sockets and only one appliance plugged into the original 'dumb' outlet. Having a capability of using two of your smart sockets is far more preferable. In the attached photo one can see the effect of oversizeing the socket. I have other round shape sockets but their size doesn't affect the use of two sockets in the same outlet.Getting the Echo Dot to recognize the socket was, for my network, slightly problematic. If one's Echo doesn't readily recognize the socket then simply 'back into' it. EASY FIX: Use Smart Life to get your network to 'see' the socket(s) and that socket can be seen by the Echo device and voice commands will be acted upon by Alexa. That is how I got my network to use voice commands with these sockets. A simple procedural fix for a network.

Does what it is supposed to do. 5 stars, minus one for wonky instructions and limited wifi.
I have a dehydrator in the garage. The dehydration cycle is anywhere from 4 to 12 hours, usually closer to 12 hours. When I start a stack of jerky to be dehydrated at 11 am, I do not want to wake up at midnight to shut off the dehydrator. So I bought this thing. The instructions are written on a teeny tiny card. I am over 60. I need readers for small writing. For this, I needed a jeweler's loupe. (not kidding) I used the instructions to get the unit going, but I think the app's software has been upgraded, because it did not match the written instructions. Anyway, once I got it connected (It is just a matter of telling the app which wifi to use), the connection and the unit's timer worked flawlessly. I will try to connect via Google Home and then will delete the software that comes with the unit. The unit only connects in 2.4 GHz connections, so if you only have 5GHz, don't bother.

Amazing little timers
I love these little guys. My turtle cage has heat lights and I’ve always bought normal programmable timers which after awhile quit working. I love that these can be used for literally anything. Right now I have our Christmas tree and Sheldon’s (my turtle - original, I know) lamps on these timers. I also love that these are so small. They don’t stick out much more and look better then your normal timer. They also don’t tick! Thank goodness!I put 4 stars on the easy to use because the app was a bit of a mess to integrate with these. But I love that I can set the timer for multiple times a day. Or different days. You can literally turn it off from your phone whenever you want. I love scaring my husband by flickering the Christmas tree in our living room while I’m in the bedroom. He thinks we have a ghost. He doesn’t know it’s all WiFi based. 😅😂

Simple to use.
Simple to use, unobtrusive. The design does not allow for two of them to be used on the same standard 2-outlet unit. However, each one does not block the second outlet from use with a normal plug.I have our Christmas tree set up with one so it is easy to have it come one and off manually or according to a pre-set timer schedule. I will find another use of it in the new year.I like that I can turn them on from anywhere, whether I am at home or away. In this case, I can save power by not have the Christmas tree lights on when I am not home but can turn them on before I arrive home so I have the pretty lights to welcome me. (Okay, it is silly but I can see more practical potential for these little smart outlets).Worth the investment, thus far.

They work well but may cover up an outlet next to where you plug them in.
You set them up with an app and then you can use them with the app or Alexa or Google. Their 10 amp power rating means you can control more than just lights, but stay below that power rating if you can just to be safe. These don't need a hub to work, which would make them more expensive and complex.
