Helping children cope with gaming addictions
As a clinical psychologist, I love when I find a kid’s book that deals with a grow-up subject in a kid friendly way. In But It’s Just a Game, Author Julia Cook, deals with addiction/game addiction in a way kids can relate. I am using this book to help kids recognize how games/the internet can be addictive and how to set appropriately limits with games/the internet. This book ends with tips for parents and educators regarding games/the internet. The illustrations are engaging and colorful, and the main character, Jasper, is likable and relatable.

Great for kids 10 and younger
More of a picture book than anything. Great story for younger kids facing screen addiction.

Great counseling tool
Great to read and review with young kids (up to 2nd grade maturity). Great for psychologists and counsellors too.

Great!
I've rated some of her other books and have to repeat: They're fantastic! Very good at teaching kids a lesson in a fun, easy to read way. Colorful, interesting characters. We read them all.

Great book. Perfect for my son!
My husband thought I was making up the story myself as he heard me read it to my son. This could have been my son in the book! 😂 hopefully it will be a very helpful book.

But It's just a Game review
I thought that this might be a book for older children so I was the one who bought it too quickly. I have it here and will find a gift recipient along the line.

Not as much a fun read for mum as others
Not as much a fun read for mum as others, however it has gone down very well with my bedtime audience of 2 8 year old girls. 1 has a great deal of trouble turning off any PC or screen, and of course the other also feels strongly, but observes the daily conflict we are living with her sister... They both caught on although they don't have video games, but related very well to the story anyway. The main part and build up are good, I can up my reading skills on it now I realise it builds through different scenarios with repetition... the last part where the kid overcomes and settles back to real life is a bit weaker I would say as it certainly skims fast over how the mum wins his investment to get off the game and back to life. I wish it was that magical in our family's life !

Loved this book for my 7 year old son
Loved this book for my 7 year old son. He didn't care about both the doctor and I saying an hour of screen time is plenty but for some reason, this book made it sink in.☺️
