Fantastic carry-on travel backpack
I did a lot of research before buying this backpack. I wanted a clamshell style that would fit certain airline (Spirit) requirements. This is extremely well made very comfortable. You can carry it with handles on different sides and the backpack straps can be put away for storage under your airline seat. It has some internal small zipper compartments as well as a small compartment at the top which is perfect for your phone sunglasses wallet etc. You will not be disappointed with the quality and practicality of this travel backpack. I use it with compression bags and it works perfectly.

Is this the true “everything” bag?
First off, being a photographer that likes to travel with a camera, and having a sling bag from PD I wasn’t surprised that I immediately liked this bag. Peak design (along with Lowepro) know how important zipper functionality is. You should be able to run the zipper one handed with little to no drag and snag. All other bag designers should follow them in lock step. Pros: - its a travel bag, a camera bag, and it’s a travel bag and camera bag. - zippers are fantastic - plenty of room for your clothes for a 4 day trip - straps tuck away - the bag conforms to hug your back even with an ipad or laptop in the sleeve. Cons: - you have to open the close compartment to get to your tablet and laptop. - It doesn’t come with the waist strap like the 45L does - because this company makes bags for photographers, I would expect more out of the tech compartment. - the shoulder straps are too thin - when fully packed the tech compartment shrinks and becomes tight to use. - you will want to use packing cubes our your clothes will shift. - it doesn’t have a quick access side zipper like its bigger brother has

Carry on delight
First of, this bag feels and looks high quality. Very durable and lightweight with functional space. Used for one bag travel on a 4 day Florida trip. Was able to stuff it and still fit it under my airline seat. The zippers are ultra smooth and easy to use. Love the top pocket for quick grab items like earbuds, powerbank, phone. Was able to fit jeans, fleece jacket, 2 compression packing cubes, tech pouch, toilet bag, Bluetooth speaker into the spacious main compartment. If you're looking for a durable, premium option for one bag travel, your search ends here with peak design.

Stop Looking - This is the Bag
I have been looking for a bag that I thought was a unicorn. A bag that I could take for carryon items, had easy access, fit under an airline seat and be a reasonable daypack when on travel for camera equipment. I tried various backpacks and some fit what I wanted, but not everything. Usually, the biggest issue was the bags had too many pockets and compartments. Then I found this. Put simply, it just worked. I took a trip to Italy recently and it worked exactly how I needed. On the plane, I had extra clothes, various electronics, passport wallet, water and snacks and it fit under the seat, including on a regional jet in Italy that tend to be smaller than ones in the U.S. (I also carry a LowePro bag for all of my camera gear). I could carry it as a regular bag, on top of my luggage or as a backpack. The fold away straps worked great and helped passing through security. During the trip, I used it to carry camera gear that I needed during the day as well as a rain jacket, snacks and water. I use padded camera gear insets to hold lenses and such and the large panel opening was great in getting access that I needed. It was also handy to put my camera in the bag when I went in restaurants or places that didn't allow photography. The bag is pricey, but I'm very happy I made the investment. It was well worth it.

Great Potential Ruined by Horrible Access and Poor Organization
I love Peak Design as a company and have many of their fantastic products. I was so excited for this one, as it aims to be exactly what I wanted--a travel backpack that is small enough to convert to a daypack when I get to my destination. As far as size, weight, and expandability go, they nailed it. However, the design causes it to fail as both a travel bag and a daypack. The two biggest issues are (1) no front access and (2) poor organization options. Regarding access, the bag can only be accessed by taking it completely off, laying it face down, and opening the back panel. To make matters worse, the back panel holds your laptop so you have to flip that heavy, laptop-filled panel completely open. If you want to spin the bag around and quickly grab something from a front opening or have a friend grab something from it while it is still on your back--this just doesn't work. This could be acceptable *if* there were some external pockets for better external organization and access. Again, the bag fails to deliver here. Aside from the two water bottle pockets, the only external pocket is a single top pocket that is merely a few inches deep. It cannot hold much at all. The face of the bag is completely devoid of any other accessible organization. Instead, there are mesh zippered pockets directly on the other side of the face--inside the bag! Which means, to access these, not only do you have to completely take off the bag and open that laptop-holding panel, you also have to take everything out of the bag and set it aside! This is terrible whether you are trying to quickly grab snacks or electronics on a plane (as a travel pack) or as you walk around touring a new place (using it as a daypack). The three stars are for size, the expandability, PD's high quality which I love, and the hope that they will add front access. Storable straps are awesome. Forgoing the hip belt and the side access panels were great choices. The expandability makes it the perfect size for a travel pack that converts to a daypack. This bag, however, just simply doesn't make sense. It has the potential to be so good, yet offers horrible access and organization. My hope is that V2 will add the front access/admin panel found in the 45L pack. Ideally, this should be the main access point and the laptop sleeve should be separate, but for some reason, PD does not like to do this. I can only hope that V2 improves on the design.

As expected. Excellent quality.
Not too heavy. I am slightly built. It seems light on my back. Built-in security features for zippers are a nice touch.

A really great backpack. Well thought out and well designed. A lot of space inside and the extension zip adds a surprising amount of space without the bulk. Internal zip compartments are well placed and the external pocket is shallow but deep enough for the important things that need easy access. There’s enough space inside to cope with a weekend away or an airline carry on. The quality and construction is superb. Time will tell how it wears but for me this is pretty much as perfect as it could be. I was initially worried from reviews that the carry on straps were poorly placed or uncomfortable but I have no such concerns and I love the way that they tuck away. In fact so many ways to carry this bag! Expensive but it would appear to be worth it!

I've been using this as an everyday bag and love it!
