Finally a WP book for actual Website Design!
I looked at a lot of books on WordPress because I didn't want to make a blog...I wanted to use it to make websites. So many of the books are just WP for blogs or claim to address BOTH but then only give a chapter to the web design aspect which like it's an afterthought. As the title says, this book makes WordPress and Web Design the topic of the entire book!It is well organized and in a logical way. I was able to get most of my questions answered and get up and running installing WP on my server (no brainer or book needed) installing a theme (again automatic) now customizing and tweaking the theme...THIS is what I bought the book for and it delivered!I was used to Dreamweaver and other visual web editors and this book explained the WP interface in such a way that I was able to relate and get the tools within WP to customize the pages using the CMS aspects and dynamic page construction to actually get the results I wanted. It gave me enough explanation of what was going on under the hood to understand without saying this is just how it works but WHY it works and that was the information all the other books lacked (besides having the primary focus on making websites and not blogs). Not too technical however that it was still quite good for someone just starting out with WordPress so have no fear. This book was the best of both worlds - Get this book!

An advanced book to make that wordpress blog even better!
I like this book a LOT. I wanted to find something to help me make my basic wordpress blog into something more. I am learning all about the power of this platform and it is exciting! This is not a beginner book, but it is within reach of anyone who has gotten the hang of getting wordpress up and running already. This IS a book to go to a new level, to use the power of Wordpress to create web sites that are more than simply basic blogs. This is a book for learning to make your own themes, and tweak the themes you like to make them even more what you wanted them to be.Like all the For Dummies books the presentation of the material allows for the user to jump around for what they need, or read through from cover to cover. The usual special boxes and little icons help to pull out points that you will be glad to remember.I recommend this book.

WordPress Web Design for Dummies made my transition nearly effortless
WordPress Web Design for Dummies, Lisa Sabin-Wilson, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., Hoboken, NJ, Copyright © 2013, ISBN 978-1-118-54661-1Author Lisa Sabin-Wilson does a great job of explaining the WordPress Web Design fundamentals.First she helps you establish your WordPress foundation by guiding you through a look at your requirements. Plus you can easily learn to install WordPress on your Web Server, and to archive content. Next she helps you choose the right tools to support WordPress endeavors like image management tools and graphic design software. A review of color theory, and planning your design strategy is also clearly explained. Then she walks through working with WordPress Themes for customization of your website. She wraps up by explaining how to use WordPress as a content management system, along with Widgets and Plugins.Recently, I renovated one of my websites that had some content that was over four years old. You can probably imagine the job of updating a four-year-old website.I didn’t look forward to learning a new web content management system, but WordPress Web Design for Dummies made the transition nearly effortless. The process of managing posts and pages is fairly intuitive. Adding images is painless. The practice of editing over 200 posts and pages took about half the time I expected.Sabin-Wilson’s experience and writing produce an excellent WordPress web design resource. I highly recommend it for someone with any level of web development skills.

Awesome explaination
I have been struggling to understand how to make wordpress work for my publication, I have worked with a designer before on another site. While he was wonderful and gave me you tube explanation, I still was confused. I did not know what wordpress was capable of doing and what I could ask the designer to do. I am comfortable enough to undertake working by myself on the site. I love this book and the tons of examples. She never talks down to the reader, but she is clear. Thank you to the author for writing the book

Diagrams far too small (need magnifier glasses to read the fine print in diagrams)
Short on precise step-by step instructions and examples on how to perform various functions (forms, videos, images, ... even on how to blog comments and repies!). Diagrams far too small (need magnifier glasses to read the fine print in diagrams) ..... Nonetheless, an informative and very useful book for the beginning WordPresser.

Not for dummies
This book is incomprehensible for a newbie. Go to you tube videos first and get a real beginners hang and then buy a book to learn about what you are watching.

Not for Dummies
Okay, the author makes this pretty clear at the beginning of the book, but I feel I should emphasize: Do NOT be mislead by the word "dummies" in the title. This is not a book for beginners. I know my way around a computer and I found this book a little intimidating. I'm plowing my way through it, but it's quite a bit of information to digest. That being said, this book is an excellent resource. Not only does it provide detailed instructions, it has all kinds of little extras (the info on color optimization tools was worth the cost of the book all on its own!). I would definitely recommend this book to someone who really wants to customize and work in depth with WordPress -- it's not for the casual user who wants his/her own blog in 30 minutes or less...

I learned a lot from Lisa Sabin-Wilson
Clear and concise. Just what I needed. I'm currently using an HTML site and editing with DreamWeaver and am changing my website to WorkPress. This book helped me understand the WP concept. It's a big challenge.
