expensive, but very good indeed for 2017 MacBook Pro
Just got this for my MBP 13" 2017 non-touchbar. That has only two (Thunderbolt 3) ports in total, which is badly short if you need to run external monitor, keyboard, USB hub /and/ still power the laptop (which also uses one of those ports).I was a bit nervous, given no reviews, but so far it's working perfectly. No drivers required, with MacOS 10.13.4: everything works out of the box. It's mostly Intel & TI chips inside. The dock has the following ports:• DC power in. It comes with a 170W 20VDC LPS power block (not wall-wart). 85W is made available to the laptop, with the rest to power the dock and for downstream devices.• wired ethernet 1Gbps full duplex• 3x USB 3.0 5Gbps: two Type A sockets (one is fast-charge capable), one USB-C• 3.5mm audio in & out (one of each)• Thunderbolt 3 40Gbps upstream [USB-C connector]; this connects to your laptop, and provides both the data link and supplies the laptop with up to 85W (confirmed in Mac system report)• Thunderbolt 3 40Gbps downstream [USB-C connector]; could be used for a monitor, or other TB3 devices (since they may be daisy-chained). Also supports USB 3.1 Gen 2 10Gbps.• DisplayPort for monitorIt will run two monitors (one TB3, one DP). Up to 4k, I think, but check. I only need Full HD, not 4k, so didn't check closely. There is no HDMI port, so if you need that, a converter would be required.Comes with a USB-C cable to attach to the laptop, and also a USB-C/DisplayPort cable.3-year warranty; and StarTech support is very helpful, I've used them before.Overall, very happy with the product. Not so happy with the price, but you do get a lot for your money.Only quibble so far: there's no LED to tell you it's switched on, on either the dock itself or the LPS power block. Not a big problem, but a slight surprise.I'd have preferred a couple more USB 3.0 ports, but I can easily attach a hub. ST do offer a bigger model with more USB ports, but it's much more expensive, and Amazon didn't offer it.

From 5 Star to 1 Star...
UPDATE 2:I have now updated my review title from "Perhaps the holy grail of docks for MBP2019 16"" to "From 5 Star to 1 Star..."This is because I've ended up having to send this dock back for the following reasons:1) I started noticing the battery starting to drain on the laptop throughout my working day even though it was constantly plugged it - it seems the dock can't provide sufficient charge to the laptop.2) Sometimes when waking the laptop, the displays would become reversed (apps from the right screen on the left, and vice versa).3) When waking the apps would move off the screen and would need to catch them from the edge of the screen and move back into position4) When waking, sometimes only one screen would wake and the only solution would be to restart the laptop.I know a lot of these points were already noted in my original review, where I first thought I'd be able to live with it, but after a month it's frustrating and tedious - especially when you just need to quickly use the computer to look something up. It's too much of an inconvenience considering the premium price of the item.A lot of the issues overlap with other docks that I've tried so I finally gave up on trying to find a dock. Instead, my new solution which seems to be working better so far is using a couple of Anker hubs with USB-C to HDMI plus other helpful ports, combined a power delivery charger. This seems to be working much better so far with none of the hassle and all of the features (more ports in fact). Plus this solution is a lot more portable as I can unplug and take those dongles with me if needed and worked out a lot cheaper too.UPDATE 1: After 3 weeks of use I've found that it barely provides enough power to keep the laptop charged. Even watching videos on YouTube causes the laptop to discharge faster than this can charge it. Whilst I don't actively keep an eye on it, I've noticed a few times the battery percent drops down to 92/93%. This can't be good for the battery but otherwise the dock has stil been great and the temptation is just to use a separate charger for charging the laptop, and to keep this dock just for connecting two screens and other peripherals.ORIGINAL REVIEW:My old MacBook was much easier for docking, I just had a couple of mini-DP to HDMI cables, and a USB hub. Cheap and simple setup that lasted years. When I got my 2019 MacBook Pro, it only has the 4 TB3 ports. Before purchasing, I'd done some initial research and resigned to the fact that I would need to purchase a dock. What I hadn't realised is that finding a dock that works properly would be so much trouble...I've now tried various docks ranging from £155 to £250. All of which have come with their own difficulties. My requirements are actually quite basic:- dock should provide sufficient charging power to the laptop- allow me to connect 2 screens via DP or HDMI- plugin an external desktop hard drive for Time Machine- plugin a USB cable for my iPhone- at least one additional port for any other peripheral that I might wish to connect- network connection through network cable rather than WiFi for more reliable speed/connectionUnfortunately, the docks that I've tried couldn't even accomplish that. Some would have trouble displaying 2 screens consistently, another somehow tookdown my home WiFi whenever I put it to sleep, most refused to show any displays when I'd wake the laptop from sleep, the DisplayLink powered ones would eat up so much RAM and CPU for no reason, and various other issues besides.I finally tried this StarTech one which I was only holding out on buying because it used to be sold for less than £200 and I was hoping for a price drop but out of necessity I paid the £250 price tag for it. And so far I'm really glad I did.I've only had it for a couple of days, but even that has been pure bliss compared to all the issues faced previously with other docks. If anything changes, rest assured I will update this review.Note that if below I suggest some problem hasn't occurred, I only say it because I HAVE had that problem with a previous dock.- first of all, it has one DisplayPort port, and one Thunderbolt. I actually purchased a separate USB-C to DisplayPort cable for £15, not realising that StarTech actually provide one in the box!- second, both screens connect and wake each time without any major problem. I have them both running at 1080p at 144Hz no problem.- both screens show the display when I wake from sleep- the network port is working fine, I haven't noticed any WiFi outage because of this- I have my Time Machine drive connected and working fine. Hasn't been randomly unmounted once. There are a couple of issues:- when waking, sometimes the apps are swapped around between the screens. You have to sort this each time by opening Displays > Arrangement and dragging the "MENU BAR" from one screen to the other.- when waking, sometimes the apps are moved off-screen. At the moment I have to click Window -> Zoom on each app but am looking to see if there's any apps that might help with this- there's only one rear USB port (which I knew before I bought) but it would have been nice to have two.Even with the issues, this dock has far fewer problems that the other docks that I've tried which included Belkin Pro, i-Tec & Caldigit. For the convenience it's worth the price.

Pricey, but worth it
This is a great product. It allows me to connect my laptop to two monitors, whilst also supporting by my mouse via a USB-A dongle and charging my laptop via USB-C. It is a little pricey, but I haven’t seen many on the market that are good quality and have all of these capabilities to enable me to work the way I want to. I have been using this for a couple of months now and have no complaints.

USB port stopped working - RESOLVED after installing newer drivers
The USB port began to be unreliable (sometimes would start working after disconnecting/reconnecting the dock), and has now stopped working altogether.EDIT - after posting a similar review on Startech's own website, their tech support contacted me and suggested installing the drivers from their website rather than just letting Windows use its own. The USB port now appears to be working again, and hopefully will continue to. Accordingly I have increased my rating from 3 stars to 4 stars.

Perfect compatibility with MacBook Pro 16-inch
Very good docking station for MacBook Pro 16-inch.I'm using it with 2 displays at 4k@60Hz without any problems.Charges the MacBook to 100% except of you stress it to 100% constantly.Very good built and overall a good dock.
