Beacon Bible Commentary, Volume 8: Romans through 1 and 2 Corinthians Review: Outstanding Commentary Set - Truly outstanding Bible commentary set, and at $10.00 per volume it's a bargain. It's extremely refreshing to have access to a commentary that is NOT oriented toward Calvinism. I'm not anti-Calvinist, and neither is this set, but most Christians are not strict Calvinists, so , as I said, it's nice to read scholarship that is more in line with pure Biblical interpretation, not man's interpretation. I've had the hardcover edition of this set for years and years and, of all the commentaries I use in sermon preparation, this is the one I reach for first. It's written in a spirit of humility; it's scholarly yet just about any believer could pick it up and grasp what the authors are trying to get across. It was first published back in the 1960's and has certainly stood the test of time. Highly recommended for clergy and layman alike. Review: Good Wesleyan thought - This is an older commentary but is still very useful for pastoral and practical use. It is based on the KJV but this can be used with any version because it's designed to be used alongside the Bible in study.

Biblical ! Sound Doctrine. Christian. Evangelical. Holiness.
For Pastors, Sunday School Teachers, Christian fathers of sons and daughters! A commitment to sound doctrine. Biblical ! Christian. Evangelical. Holiness. Wesleyan. Published by Beacon Hill Press and a standard for the Church of the Nazarene (I am a member. We do have more commentaries.). BEACON BIBLE COMMENTARY 10 vol Reliable. Mainstream. With Preaching and Pastoral work in mind.Dated (1970's) even limited yet I recommend it. Helping with "the great task of the Church: to communicate the knowledge of the Word, to enlighten the eyes of the understanding, and to awaken and to illuminate the conscience that men may learn to “live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.” And I say: To make known the God of Scripture in Christ our Savior. Preface, partial: We believe in the plenary inspiration of the Bible. God speaks to men through His Word. He has spoken unto us by His Son. But without the inscripted Word how would we know the Word which was made flesh? He does speak to us by His Spirit, but the Spirit uses the written Word as the vehicle of His revelation, for He is the true Author of the Holy Scriptures. What the Spirit reveals is in agreement with the Word. The Christian faith derives from the Bible. It is the Foundation for faith, for salvation, and sanctification. The Bible is the Guide for Christian character and conduct. The revelation of God and His will for men is adequate and complete in the Bible. The great task of the Church, therefore, is to communicate the knowledge of the Word, to enlighten the eyes of the understanding, and to awaken and to illuminate the conscience that men may learn to “live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.” And I say: To make known the God of Scripture in Christ our Savior.

This is a good commentary, but the authors are so afraid of coming off as Calvinist that they twist scripture up, down & sideways. I'm a fairly strong Arminian, but the commentary on the end of Romans 8 is just "off." Go to Whedon if you want a proper understanding.
