Modus - Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons Nintendo Switch

A good quality beat em up. Great visuals and character models. Developer continued to release dlc for the game which is appreciated. It’s worth more than one playthrough to try the different characters and collect coins to unlock other content.

Double Dragon was my absolute favorite growing up. My brother and I ran to the Arcade when we were able to go to the local mall. If we didn't have quarters we would hang out and watch people play! What a letdown from Nintendo in the '80s though..? Right? No 2, player. The only reason I wanted the Sega Master System instead. We would play acting like Hammer and Spike. I miss my brother every dayAnyway... Double Dragon hasn't been good in a long time. I loved Neon. If Neon had just given the ability to kick the barrels like in the original it would've been that much better. Artwork and an Appearance from Willy would've been Rad! I loved it.Double Dragon Gaiden has the goods to be the best Double Dragon game Since 1 & 2's arcade versions. The problem? It's too dang short. The enemies are cool but there's no Williams, Roper, or Jeff's. The game is awesome. 4, levels? Short too? This game has it all to be the best effort towards a beat'em up! Plus if you could kick the barrels and boxes. Levels are too short. Plenty of room for Sub-bosses like classic enemies. This could have been a smash and my son and I were left salivating for more from this effort. When I heard of an update? Free too? I was like.. More levels? They weren't finished. Smart! But.. No. I mean.. Not to sound ungrateful, but The update was awesome. I love what was added. even though there's nothing to spend tokens on anymore. lol. THe loading screen made me imagine a Nintendo version of the Arcade. Jimmy Looks Rad colored like that. This effort has all the goods to be the best.

Double Dragon Gaiden is a beat em up with rogue lite elements. That is NEAT. You earn cash while playing that can be used upon death to revive your characters, buy some upgrades for that run or can be hoarded to earn tokens that are used to unlock new characters and bonus content. So upfront save up your tokens so you can unlock Abobo and Linda. Because come on man who doesn't want to run amuck with Abobo and Linda? That's the real dream team.Doing combos and finishing enemies with a special move earns you a bonus food item and depending upon the amount of enemies finished with a special move dictates what food item. So try to finish with a special to get a HOT DOG, BURGER or the full health filling STREET TURKEY. You can pick which order you take on the rival gangs which is one of the cooler aspects of this game. The later a stage is selected the longer it will be. So this breathes a little extra life into the game in that you can play stages in different order to eventually see all of the zones. So mixing and matching zones along with testing out new characters breathes a lot of life into this title. For me it's all about Linda and Billy Lee.There's also a Survival Mode where you take on waves of enemies in increasing number and challenge. I personally did not get too much out of the Survival Mode. The final mode is a versus mode which I only dabbled with before I had unlocked any characters. Unlocking characters and stages for the versus mode also offers a fair bit of incentive to keep playing the game for me at least. I look forward to clobbering my daughter in Versus mode with Abobo.

I own many (if not all) Double Dragon games from the 90s so I was excited to find the new Double Dragon game. It's certainly fun and when Abobo came out - I just had to scream out loud like I was a kid again. Just buy this game esp. if you are a fan of somewhat retro game to relate with somewhat different generations!

Fun game but also free DLC content via patch update what more do you want!
