Our 3 year old granddaughter uses this everyday for school.

What would happen if I put a hot liquid on this?

Hot liquid is fine. The thermos will keep the hot water hot for a long time. However, the straw will be bent up due to the hot water. It will not retain a straight shape. Remove the straw if you are going to store hot water.
