Works well, but DOES NOT transfer data on Apple M1 chips
TL;DR - This adapter does not transfer data, despite what the description (picture attached) states. The lights indicating connection status on the rj45 port are reversed in function, and the housing of the rj45 port is plastic (I did have some shavings come out of the port). Other than these, this adapter does charge my device and connect it to Ethernet well. It gets warm when in use, but so far I am not concerned. If you are looking for an adapter that charges your device while giving it an Ethernet connection, I would just look for the cheapest one with the best reviews. At my time of purchase, that was this one. So far I am not disappointed. This Ethernet + Power adapter is good at what it was designed for so far, but it does not perform according to its description. The description of the device clearly states “The USB-C port on the side of this USB-C to Ethernet adapter is SOLELY intended for charging or data transfer and cannot be used to transmit video signals”. Emphasis on “intended for charging or data transfer”. In my testing, this device does not transfer data either while charging or without charging. For example, when I connect a storage device to the usbc port on the adapter, the storage device is not recognized by my device. I tested this on an M1 Max MacBook and and M1 iPad. Maybe the adapter is incompatible with the M series chips, but for me, this adapter does not transfer data with my devices.Aside from that, this device does pass through 1Gbps Ethernet via the rj45 port, with the option to charge your device at the same time via the side-mounted usbc port on the adapter. The braided cable is somewhat stiff but it seems high quality. The aluminum cover encasing the bulk of the adapter feels very similar to the aluminum on a MacBook, but a little more course. The enclosure does get warm during use, however, so far I’ve experienced no issues with heat damage. It is worth mentioning the walls of the rj45 port are plastic; I have had a few shavings from manufacturing come out of the port, but other than that I think it’s still fine being made plastic. Also, I noticed that the orange and green lights that signal connection status are reversed; in most adapters the green light constantly blinks when connected to indicate an active network connection, while for this adapter, the orange light does that. It’s really not that big of an issue, but it’s worth mentioning, as some people may be confused by this.Overall, I like the materials this adapter is made of, and only time will tell if this device will last. If you’re looking to buy an Ethernet adapter that charges your device and provides a stable Ethernet connection, this one may be for you, as long as it’s the cheapest option you can find (all these charging + Ethernet adapters are pretty similar). If you are looking for an adapter that transfers data on top of these functions, this one isn’t for you.

Great for Macbook Air
My wife spends a lot of time with her browser open and dozens of tabs. I knew her work was data heavy so adding an ethernet port was essential. This adapter is perfect because of its ability to allow power to flow through it was well. The Macbook Air only has two USB C ports so one for the external monitor and the other for ethernet plus power is perfect.
