Core Java SE 9 for the Impatient

I've read a few of Horstmann's impatient books and was pleased by this one as well.Not for a beginner, but if you know Java 8, this is a great way to get up to speed.

It says it's for those who are impatient, and it does cut in faster than some other books do, but it still gives thorough detail. Also, the book isn't entirely impatient, though maybe better than most. I'm about half way done reading this book, I can say I have learnt some stuff I hadn't learnt before about Java.

Good JAVA refresher for experienced programmer with some JAVA knowledge.

Well, C.S. Horstmann books are always good. This one no exception.

I don't read all that many programming books any more, but regardless, this is THE BEST ONE I've read this decade. It defines it's audience -- non-beginners -- and never waivers. I've got several years total Java experience on and off since 2002 and learned things new to me even in the introductory chapters. The author lays out best practice and things to avoid very cogently. and he rarely diverges into minutiae. I've detected very few errors -- the majority (a mere 2) being grammatical/typographical in nature -- which is so refreshing in this age of publish or perish, and the author has been quick to respond with a way to submit errata for future editions. I highly recommend this book especially to developers like me who have been largely focused on Javascript the last several years as some of the newer features of Java bear a striking resemblance.

This is an introduction designed to get you up to speed quickly, written in clear and precise English. Far better than Java in a Nutshell, which is often quite vague and imprecise.

Very good book. Concise, clear, easy to follow. Highly recommended.

Great book for people who already know a programming language and want to get into Java.Not too basic with good descriptions of Java functionalities.
