Review: Majestic book inside and out - Wonderful, inspiring book. Regarding both the inside and out. It has encouraged me to purchase more from this manufacturer. The tassel is of great help and I think it adds something special to this product. The chocolaty golden hue tells the reader their mind’s “sweet tooth” would be satisfied plucking this from their shelf. And of course the story inside - well it’s a masterpiece. It demands you consider the possibility that actions and choices have consequences beyond this realm. But also, it connects you with a people from long ago, how they also faced corruption of their traditional institutions - political, religious as well as in their personal life For the price, I think it’s unbeatable

Alighieri's masterpiece
In keeping with the idea of reviewing the product, let me say first and foremost that Canterbury classics does an excellent job with their leather bound hardback books. Gilded edges, ivory white paper, beautifully died and bound leather cover/back/spines make these a wonderful addition to your bookshelf or display, whether or not you've actually read the story. The price is amazing for all the accoutrement mentioned, with even their most expensive titles costing 30 bucks or less. As far as The Divine Comedy is concerned, I do not recommend this translation to any novice willing to tackle Alighieri's classic. In presentation, the book is beautiful, but Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's translation is full of outdated, archaic nomenclature that basically requires you have a dictionary and smartphone/computer bookmarked to sparknotes or cliffnotes in order to decipher each canto on an individual basis. It could take you several weeks or months in order to finish the story. There are cheaper, easier to read alternatives for this story all over the internet and the story itself is public domain, so unless you absolutely want a decorative piece or gift, this version may not be for you. That being said, I love this version of the book. For the price, I highly recommend this book to any collector or person who appreciates literature.

Great quality, better price
I own a number of Canterbury classics and I love all of them! I'm always amazed at the quality of the books and I love the way they look next to each other in the book shelf. This purchase would have gotten 5 stars had it not been for the inside cover paper being ever so slightly crooked. It's glued in securely so nothing has a chance of falling apart, it just wasn't even like all the others. Not anything to return it over or anything, just a small thing that was more than likely unique to this copy :)

Excellent commentary and notes
I purchased this version pursuant to a group reading of the Divine Comedy with some Friends. The prose is modern enough to where this version reads smoothly but does not sacrifice the original text. Also from a scholar perspective, the Introduction and End Notes by David Higgins are excellent! My friends had the Penguin Classics edition and said the notes and text of the Oxford version is better overall

A beautiful journey
This printing of the Divine Comedy is a must have for any fan of epic poetry. The pages are gilded and fine and the print and illustrations are well done. As for The Divine Comedy, one of the most satisfying reads of my life. It's a vivid eloquent telling of a metaphysical journey to redemption. In my bug out bag, as an essential to navigate this modern unforgiving world while keeping my spirit lofty and my mind free.
