It’s not the unit, it’s the software!
Having many smart devices on the MATTER mesh platform, via APPLE, this ONVIS PIR won’t be alone for long; it is compact and robust and comes with sticky 3M pads and screws & rawl plugs if you want to make it more secure. It’s not rated for use directly outside but if suitably covered, they say it is… not convinced on that , and wouldn’t recommend it. The beam width is 100° horizontal and its sensitivity is as you’d expect. One niggle is the inability to fix it on the 45° mark of the corner of a room to get maximum usage from the unit, a tight gimbal fixture bracket for the mount would solve that - perhaps as an optional extra please ONVIS?The LED ‘set off’ is a tad too dim, especially when testing initially and its refresh rate seems a bit laboured too.The aggravating factor is the Apple HomeKit running system that is way too flaky for Apple, and has some seriously annoying features and non-features that you expect to have, but don’t. It’s Siri or nothing here, so it’s our choice, but to wonder if what you ask for or program it to do will implement seemlessly is a roll of the dice every time. This unit doesn’t need a hub it’s plug and play via scanning the qr code, and off you go. For the money it’s worth it, you do get a battery power repeater in the ONVIS app, but as you don’t need it in Apple land, you can park it. It’s 2 x AAA batteries which are supplied and are said to last about a year on average (affected by the frequency of activity on a daily basis . Give it a whirl if you’re tempted, but remember this is not a radar occupant monitor to alert if static activity occurs by the occupant. Although that will be soon as I want to see if the claims are true or pr fluff. This would not be recommended to incorporate in an alarm system as a detector, but as a peripheral device maybe.

Light levels not supported in HomeKit
If you use home automations that use light level to determine actions, this product is not for you.I have a different brand sensor in my bathroom that periodically disconnects, I wanted to replace it with the Onvis sensor as the one I have in my hall has a rock solid connection. With my old sensor, when triggered HomeKit checks the time of day and current light level to decide if the lights should come on 100% brightness white light or 30% brightness amber light, which is really useful if you get up in the night and don’t want blinded when you go to the loo. It’s also useful in the daytime when it gets cloudy during the day, as the bathroom light will come on automatically at 100% white if it’s below 20 lux in the bathroom. These onvis sensors do not allow reading light levels in HomeKit so this functionality no longer works when using this sensor, very disappointed, I’ll be sticking with my old one by another company. It’s ok if you just want a motion sensor with a solid connection, but if want to use light levels to trigger different actions, find something else.

Small and with much more abilities than others
It works fine, and it is very small, compared to others, it is not matter but thread. It comes with not one but two screws so you have to align when setting it up, and it comes with some tape that does not stick enough. When setting up automations in homekit, puts it as another device to react on, rather than registering it as a sensor like other sensory devices in homekit, which is strange. It registers light, but does not tell how many lumen, and the register doesnt measure the light, as it does with humidity, temperature or the different motion register… I dont get the calibration, but it has some strange way to do it in the core app, not homekit. I like it alot since it is the same price as Eve, but you get a sensor for both temp, humidity, motion and a bit light much smaller for about the same price, as long as you stay with homekit and dont swop, and should have gotten a matter device…

My Onvis Smart Motion Sensor SMS2 Review
The media could not be loaded. I’ve been using this Smart Motion Sensor SMS2 for a few weeks now, and it’s been a great. Setting it up was super easy—just scanned the QR code, and it connected to my Apple HomeKit right away. The motion detection works really well and is super quick. I use it to turn my lights on when I walk into a room, and it hasn’t missed a beat. You can even adjust the motion sensitivity, which is a nice touch if you want to fine-tune how it responds. It also tracks temperature and humidity, which I didn’t think I’d care about, but it’s actually handy to have. The battery life seems solid so far, and it’s small enough to stick anywhere without it standing out. It only works with HomeKit, so if you use Alexa or Google Assistant, this won’t be for you. What I like:• Quick and reliable motion detection• Easy to set up• Adjustable motion sensitivity• Bonus temperature and humidity readings• Compact and discreet designWhat could be better:• Only works with HomeKitIf you’re already in the Apple ecosystem, this is a great little gadget to automate your home. It’s simple, works well, and does exactly what it’s supposed to.

Did not work
I have a number of Motion sensors but this was the first one from Onvis i have purchased. Unfortunately the experience was poor and the product was terrible. Along with the Onvis App that is also very poor and looks like it was designed by a 5 year old the product was so hit and miss and convoluted to use it was just too time consuming to set up. and get any reliability from it. I have now returned it after a number of attempts to get it working even having reset it a number of times.Obviously i may have just had a bad one that was perhaps malfunctioning but the experience of it was not great. The biggest issue for me was the fact the Homekit Automation for this sensor were different and you only had the option of triggering something when the sensor was on, rather than the usual Homekit option of "When Motion is detected" while it may in essence mean the same it just never worked reliably if at all and in the 2 days i had this it triggered only 2 times when it should have triggered at least 20 with testing.
