RYA Laser Handbook Paperback – January 1, 2008

Excellent book by an Olympic gold medalist that will help you advance your Laser sailing no matter what your skill level.In my case, this book was useful even though I had lots of time in Lasers: when I bought this I already had sailed in a number of Laser nationals and one worlds, placing first in one Nationals and 15th in Worlds. Plus plenty of regional regattas and clinics. However, my Laser experience was all in the 80s and 90s and was very dated. For instance, we didn't zigzag downwind back then like sailors do today.When I got back into the Laser for Masters sailing, I got this book, re-reading it several times. It helped a ton in terms of learning the new techniques. The book has a lot of photo sequences, which are invaluable for understanding proper boathandling. It's a good idea to review each photo closely -- often there are implied tips that aren't mentioned in the next itself.

This book is a great guide for anyone who already knows how to sail, doesn't know the Laser and plans to perform well in races. It is specificly about the Laser. I read many (if not all) Laser specific books and this one is -by far- the best available nowadays. Many of the other Laser guides are outdated due to new techniques, new equipment and new class rules.It is well organized and sophisticated in everything Laser specific, from buying and rigging the boat to sailing trim and techniques. The paper, colors and print quality are very good. There are lots of excelent pictures clarifying the details, of which there are A LOT more than one would expect in a boat that was meant to be as simple as possible.Complement with a dinghy sailing tactics manual, learn about wind and waves and you are ready to train seriously!

seems like a nice book, haven't read it all the way through.i got this book because i want to get back into racing/sailing my laser. i grew up going to a sailing camp for lasers and this book has some tips that i never learned at the camp.

Brilliant photography makes this book fun to browse. While all the material presented is easily understood and useful, the book lacks the detail I expected considering its source and the term "Handbook" used in the title. I found it to be more of a "Quick-start Guide."In short: Excellent, but it should be better!

Solid, all-round book for laser sailing and racing. It is one of the more up to date laser books around and my son, who races lasers has really appreciated this book and all the great insights!

I am new to high performance small boat racing/sailing as well as to the Laser. Photos & directions in this book were clear, concise, and in the perfect learning order. I highly recommend this to anyone considering a Laser.

This is the most up to date combination of rigging and sailing info, presented with great photos and on quality paper and binding. Yeah it's pricey but it's a class act all the way.
